The winger debate is a strange one, personally they have set up a few goals, scored a fair few between them and more importantly been doubled up on in most games which has thus opened space for the central pairing to exploit and a fair few goals have come down the middle for us this season.

Im not sure its a strange debate though, it was merely questioning how many of popes goals have come from wing play, i dont think any one was actually saying either were bad ?

Very true, we cannot moan with our league position, nor the players, and it is a pleasant change. I take the view there is always scope for improvement, the team has developed this season, the coaching is working. MA`s job will get harder with a bigger squad to keep happy, and more options in team formations. But we will always comment, and it is mainly constructive criticism, some will never be happy but that is what some enjoy. Onwards and upwards

I don't see how anyone can have anything against either of these guys when they have contributed c.15 goals and we are top of the league! I would say they are doing their job just fine.

Their goal contribution isn't in question although 5 of them are spot kicks. What I and a growing number of others are concerned about is the poor service of crosses that they provide for the target men.

if i was wildes id be looking at tying tom down on a better contract

 

hopefully that is exactly what they are doing . having hughes playing along side him can only help improve him as a player also .

John, i think your missing the point, again im not sure if any one was criticising either wingers, in my case far from it

JMWs last assist was on December 1st for Pope against Sheff Utd.

Vincents last assist was on Nov 20th for Pope against Bristol Rovers.

 

And i am not criticising the wingers or anyone.

I personally wouldnt swap our wingers for anyone in the lower leagues.

It was Williamson who passed to Pope against Sheff Utd. Though Burge might have got a touch on the way.

We now have an exciting attacking team as at any time since the Guppy/McCarthy era and I for one wouldnt change it...like someone has said they are attacking wingers who occassionally get it right with their crosses if they were any better at it...They certainly wouldnt be playing with Port Vale but in the Premiership

Its a thread about Tom Pope, it got side tracked slightly in that its a common mis-conception that the reason Pope has scored so many goals is down to the wingers.

 

Id say Popes improvement is down to many factors, one of which with out doubt is down to JMW & Vincent
