I would personally like to see a modernised old-school crest/brand based on the Burslem Crest, full of heritage and prestige, yet have modernity and clarity of a club going forward. A touch of colour would also be an added bonus! Re-branding of this nature is about subtleties whilst retaining the familiarities of the trusted mark people are use to and have faith in.

Everything progresses over the course of time; the badge, the ground, the strips, the rules, the conditions, the players etc so I see nothing wrong in moving forward without deserting the heritage and routes of the club. The England Crest has been updated quite a bit over the years but so little that most folk wouldn't have noticed.

There have been some very successful re-branding exercises in football over the last decade and some truly awful ones; Stoke, Fulham to name just two.

Whatever is done must be designed properly, sorry don't like the new one on the presentation. If it's not done correctly it will look worse.

Designing a modern colourful badge is easier if you have any identity such as the Chelsea Lion, the Leicester fox, a Wolves wolf etc.. but we don't have an identity as such. What exactly is a Valiant, is it a Knight, an Aeroplane, a central-heating boiler or a cartoon racing-pigeon.

It's nothing to do with the fox or Valiant it's how you evolve the current mark on which gives it modernity whilst keeping the heritage people relate to.

I just hope they use a professional branding studio and not the local school.

The new Premiership badges are a global branding thing. They have to be instantly recogniseable now' date=' they are brand associated, something which just wasn't considered until the Premier League franchised it's way around the world.[/quote']

Chesterfield, Shrewsbury, Morecambe, Swindon, Scunthorpe, Bournemouth, Wycombe......

The american sport team logos imo are fantanstic; simple, colourful and modern. Just google 'NCAA team logos' and you will see what I mean.

This is a facinating debate as a design student, if i hadnt already chosen a graduation project it be very interesting as a branding project to look at, and great research opinions.

I agree with birdys opinion, i like the club are looking for change and progression also involving the fans in this but the crest needs to be progressed more not just recycled to what was seen as better times back in the day. Im unsure how to vote as i like the idea of a new crest just not the one suggested it needs refining the current crest and the old (new suggested) are both cluttered.
