Clayton McDonald

What's the world coming to when you can't go to a football match and sing a song that celebrates rape and offends other paying customers. I mean, it would be perfectly natural to sing songs about celebrating rape in every other part of society, like the supermarket, or round your girlfriends parents house, wouldn't it. I mean, if some-one raped my daughter, I'd personally love it to know that there is a group of men out there who just love singing songs that celebrate rape.

Actually, in reality, its not the singing of the song that is the worst thing. I already know some people are morons. It's the determination to sing the song and revel in one's own ignorance that is truly astonishing. It brings shame on to the club and its supporters.

Also, the idea that opposition to singing the song means we don't like singing or creating an atmosphere is similarly moronic. Just find another song to sing, preferably about supporting the Vale, and not celebrating rape.

Celebrating rape? Clayton didn't rape anyone. He had sex with a woman. If the song was about Ched Evans then I could understand, but it's about someone who was cleared of all charges, so I don't get how it's celebrating rape?

The song is in bad taste, but so are most football chants. If you don't like it, don't sing it. It obviously doesn't bother the vast majority of fans as most fans sing it at away games, and until Clayt comes out and says he doesn't like the song, then people will probably carry on singing it.

I would certainly not say the vast majority sing it Mellor. Have a look around you and see which people are singing along with you. You might have a shock!

Mellor

Did you sing the song about Clayton before his mate raped a woman?

So, despite what many Vale fans feel about the song, you'll continue to sing it until Clayton says otherwise?

Do you think singing the song adds or detracts to fan unity and the good of the club?

I don't think it makes any difference to fan unity or the good of the club. I think most people see it as a chant, nothing more, nothing less.

There is no malice meant towards the victim or Clayt. Imo, it's the same as how some people view jokes. Do you see them as something to try and make people laugh, or are people making these jokes just to offend people? The song imo is meant as banter, it's not there to offend anyone.

I didn't sing it before, no. I know the song was made after the case. If it was 'he rapes who he wants' then I wouldn't join in. But I don't mind 'he shags who he wants' a bit strange maybe, but I think that one word would take it from banter to just an offensive chant.

There's not alot of things that offend me. Racism and homophobia meant in a malicious way are probably the only things. I guess if I'd had some kind of dealing with rape, then I wouldn't like the song. But I haven't, so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me? Or maybe I just have a really low moral fibre...

Mellor sums it up as far as im concerned if Clayton keeps playing as he is he can ''shag who he wants'' my missus included!!! well only for a free ticket and a hotdog!

Santa

The suggestion in the song is that it doesn't matter whether or not any of his partners have given consent, he'll have sex with them anyway: 'he shags who he wants'.

That seems to me, and many others, to be a celebration of rape.

:yes::yes::clap:

This.

I was at the Oxford game when somebody used the word 'rapes', I didn't join in because it is a vile thing to say. An older lady turned round and told the few lads singing it that it was vile. I find it slightly worrying that people on here think that I or any other person who supports the chant would condone rape.
