Apparently put best start to a season for 40+ years. Hats off to all concerned

Can any stato tell how many points we had at this stage 2 seasons ago, when Micky lay had us up at the top?

In Oct 2010, after 12 games we had 24 points (26 this season), a goal difference of +10 (+16), scored 17 (28) and conceded 7 (12).

There is a long way to go - made evident that Swindon were 14th after 12 games last season!

Oxford were able to get and keep the ball at times as we had two wingers, but once we clicked in to gear again we always looked threatening. I thought it was a very good performance. It was also entertaining, I mean I know there were some funnies in it as happens in league 2, but they were entertaining as well - especially our second goal which in the end required an excellent finish after the comedy defending. Oxford looked a busted flush, I thought they were a team of Rigg level players and their usual main man Constable didn't do too much. Their keeper looked reasonably useful. What a difference our keeper Neal makes compared to Tomlinson.

Were you there? Dodds was superb off the ball. Never stopped drawing defenders and working left, right and centre for the team.

Bob on mate. Dodds links the midfield and forward line, you notice him more when he goes off and there's usually a big gap between the two.

Isn't it nice that Chris Neal has hardly had a mention (Warren). We just take him for granted now. A pro who knows how to command the box and deal with the balls coming in 6 to 8 yards off the line. A superb, low key, get on with it, performance. I spotted no errors. If Tommo were there, well. Say no more.

And super Sammy in the wings.

Very sensible post in that it puts into perspective how long the season will be. Fantastic start, and Vale could have won by 6-0 .

It's been a long time since we had something to cheer, though, so we deserve every minute of it, fans ,club, staff etc.:)

We played like a team of winners tonight! What a performance. Myrie-Williams, what a ****ing player! Vincent, what a ****ing player!

Race is on between us and Gillingham this season.

A long way to go, and I hope you're right. Vale are in a great position now, but I've seen it go pear shaped many times before , usually around Easter week-end. MA has a good squad , and I really hope they can stay injury-free and avoid too many suspensions. Up the Vale!!

Also though usualy when vale are in these kind of positions we start to drop late september early october, this season we are getting stronger and hard to beat, granted, it is a long way to go but still we are looking fantastic.A new owner in place soon (fingers crossed), and a new era beconing. Things may actually be on the up for vale.

I actually agree. Not sure what Williamson adds when brought on.

Neal: 8 ( not much to do but caught or stopped 100% of everything sent his way)

Duffy: 8

Taylor: 8

Mccombe: 8

McDonald: 8

Vincent: 9

Burge: 8

Morsey: 8

Williams: 9

Dodds: 8

Pope: 9

Everyone was excellent I'm working nights do couldn't go and watched it on tele before I went work, and all I can say is that I'm very proud to call Vale my team... As soon as I saw us play in the friendlys I was telling everybody that we will be up there this season... And everybody laughed including a few people on here!! Im glad my predictions are proving to be correct on what I saw before the season started and too laugh at the few people who tryed to make me look stupid for predicting this... Guppy etc ... Who said at best we would finish top of the bottom half of the table...

Just a word on Chris Neal - Not once did I panic or feel anxious when Oxford put the ball into our box. If McDonald or McCombe weren't there to clear it the Neal was there to deal with it. He didn't have to do much last night but what he did have to do was all top drawer. It goes without saying that he's a much more solid keeper than Tomlinson and Martin, and our best goalkeeper since Mark Goodlad. I know that Stuart Tomlinson had a very decent first season with us before his peformances dropped but I have every confidence in this goalkeeper.
