How are you still seriously defending your ridiculous Maja suggestion?

Cole had 1 season in the championship and was constantly on West Brom’s bench not good enough to play.

Maja hasn’t played lower than the championship since he was 20 years old, played 40 championship games last season, and the season before that scored 12 in 26 in the championship.

Josh Maja and Devante Cole are absolutely not comparable

Josh Maja played 1530 Championship minutes for WBA last season, the equivalent of 17 games total.

He has averaged considerably fewer minutes per season for WBA over the three seasons he has been with them.

Which is why WBA have now released him and why his next contract is very likely to be at a level below Championship, and on a fraction of his wages at WBA.

Once again, Josh Maja is definitely a long shot for Vale, but it costs nothing to ask the question, especially for a player who wouldn't have to move house to play here.

Why don't you share with us your own constructive suggestions for players you think we actually could sign who would make our club better?

Do Alan and Paul come from the Flitcroft school of player recruitment?

I distinctly remember Flitcroft spending an entire window, asking the question of Arsenal to take Mika Bierieth on loan, only for him to leave Arsenal on a loan and £4M later that season.

But hey, as long as we ask the question, that's success and moving forward, right?

Edit:

Ah yes, here we go:

Just a thought for all of the clever critics.

If it had been suggested at this point last year that Vale would be able to sign Devante Cole from WBA, you would have scoffed.

In fact some of you probably did.

I've already said that Josh Maja is a long shot for Vale, and it is obvious that he is.

But so was Devante Cole, and yet that all changed when he got to late August 2025 and still had no contract offer on the table.

These are the calibre of player we have to be considering, if we want, as a first step, to become an established EFL1 club, competing strongly in the top half of the EFL1 table.

I disagree Alan. We need to target realistic options. In league 1 under Flitcroft we were told we were constantly bidding for players who went to sides in the play offs.
We need to go for realistic targets rather than wasting time and effort on players we simply won’t get

I don’t owe you my constructive suggestions, i’m not part of the recruitment team. But i am 100% sure that the recruitment team aren’t looking at Josh Maja 😂😂😂

You can apply the same stupid logic and say it costs nothing to enquire about Haaland. After all, what is there to lose? Ridiculous

I haven't got any constructive suggestions, I just like criticising other people's efforts while offering nothing at all myself.

There you go, fixed it for you.

Then please offer your own suggestion of any such realistic target.

Just to reiterate (for everyone, not solely you), this is a transfer rumours and speculation thread.

So I'm speculating.

By all means contradict my suggestions but, if you do, then please try to come up with some better suggestions.

Personally, Iv not recently made any progression on a cure for cancer, and im not sure i know 200 words, never mind 20000, but thats not to say iv been wasting my time, no sir, not me.

Just in the last seven days iv read a book with blood mages in it (twelve Kings in Sharakhai) played and finished echoes of the end on pc, taken Mutt Hoppers on multiple walks, and painted the shed - no flies on Hoppers, as they say.

Iv been thinking, in a bid to end the ex player conundrum once and for all,  maybe we should put up a poll of all these ex vale players still kicking the leather, with the winners name being put forward to JB for advanced transfer negotiations - we could make it an annual preseason affair and have another poll for official ovf representation on the negotiations committee for said lucky player 👍 😉

Alan Vit: I will cure cancer in 2 weeks.

OVF posters: Lol, course you will you daft git.

Alan Vit: Can every poster please post a 20,000 word thesis on what plans they have for positive change in modern medicine, and what steps they have taken to cure cancer within a 14 day time frame. Your opinions are worthless otherwise.

It's uncanny.

You have paraphrased what I'm saying with absolute precision.

"It's worth the non-cost of a call to see if Josh Maja might be interested at all." now becomes "Here's my entry for the 2026 Booker Prize for fiction.".

Meanwhile, back on Planet Earth, why don't you share with us your own constructive suggestions for players you think we actually could sign who would make our club better?

Anything better to offer?

Anything at all?

Christ, why stop there? With that logic, since Joe Gelhardt’s contract is up end of season perhaps we ought to enquire about him.

I’m sure he would jump down two divisions as well. 😂

He could do a job at this level 🙂

That call does have a cost. It costs time. If we spend time calling the agent of every player around Josh Maja's level/status we may get lucky and one signs. We would however, be short of about 5 players as either there wouldn't be time left to call the agents of all the players who would consider Port Vale not to be beneath them or we would waste all of our time being messed about by Josh Maja etc. and the players would no longer be available when Maja etc turn us down.
