2026 Winter Transfer Window

Featured Replies

I agree with those who interpreted Bradys interview as evidence that we have nobody ready to come in and he hasn't been supported in the transfer market.

We sit bottom of the league and we have weakened our squad.

Its all well and good Brady sitting in the railway to find out if the fans still believe and are ready to back the players but that's of no use when it seems to me that it is the ones at the top who have given up and are just preparing for league 2.

Begs the question is it even worth going for promotion from league 2 again of they aren't going to find the funds to prepare us for anything more than another relegation battle in league one.

I think it's more a case of costs need to be cut for League 2, so on a L2 budget there is nothing left.

For a L1 budget, there might be something left(?) but as its effectively a gamble now it might be seen as risky. Plus I imagine from Carol's perspective she 'righted the wrongs' of the last L1 campaign with a much more healthy budget for the first team squad.

The irony of course is some of the players from that squad had more fight than some of the ones we've brought in (Shipley, etc)

I'd hope she's advised that it's worth paying out to give us the best chance of staying up, as L2 will see a drop off in monies coming in and likelihood we stay there for a while.

Not sure why she should loan money off other people and have to pay interest when she has a very large bank account of her own.

I’m just trying to get to the bottom of where TJH is saying  it’s not her money

With respect, I think you have misinterpreted several issues.

The head of recruitment assists the manager, but does not replace the manager in choosing which players to sign.

And Jon Brady was in no sense "giving away that he didn't hold much faith in the recruitment department", that is you trying to impose your own prejudices on the situation, and also attempting to assign your own prejudices to all of the fans who don't in any way share them.

"Hancock said when Brady identifies a player he wants in or out then it will be Darnbrough’s job to deal with agents and clubs to get the deal closer.

It would be then up to Hancock to sign off on the deal providing he’s happy with the wage, contract and other details. "

https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/uk-sport/25814372.port-vale-boss-jon-brady-calls-support-transfer-window/

"Port Vale manager Jon Brady has called for more support in the transfer window"

So Brady identifies players he wishes to sign and it is up to the club staff to ensure those players are signed. So far, we have got a young winger on loan and a defender from the 7th tier on a short-term contract. Out the door have been five players, including our top scorer and a winger to clubs higher than us, and a veteran winger who joined us from the Championship.

Brady himself stated “With what we’ve got at the moment, I’ve only got two strikers available and right now in the window we need support in that area.”

Journalists at the Herald have interpreted that as Brady calling for more support from the club in terms of recruitment. They have made that interpretation from the part where Brady explicitly stated that he needed more support in terms of recruitment. You are entitled to interpret things however you wish. Perhaps Brady is delighted to lose his best players and have <ovf censored> all coming in to replace them. Maybe he decided to risk his management caree ron this bold strategy.

@kevin_struggles

Jon Brady's interview did say that we have nobody ready to come in, because Devante Cole departing had not in any way been planned until the late interest came in and the player said he wanted to go.

But Jon Brady's interview did not say that "he hasn't been supported in the transfer market" it said that he is now looking to be supported in the transfer market to replace the forwards who have departed.

What is possible to achieve in the remaining brief period of the transfer window is what we'll now find out.

Whereas this gem "it seems to me that it is the ones at the top who have given up and are just preparing for league 2" is entirely your own and has nothing to do with Jon Brady's interview.

Yes, that's an entirely correct description of the respective roles.

So you have just demonstrated that your earlier assertion -

"It's not on Brady to sign players. We have a head of recruitment."

- was mistaken.

Jon Brady chooses which players to sign and then Lee Darnbrough and then Matt Hancock complete the formalities of the signings.

What part of that doesn't align with what he's said?

For the love of god Alan, stop talking out of your backside.

So if Brady finds a player before 7pm tomorrow then he needs to run him by Darnbrough, provided he’s not in Poland and/or freelancing for someone else.

Which is what you are now saying, but is not what you said before.

I'm not going to debate what a newspaper based in Glasgow thinks was meant by the Vale manager's interview when I can listen for myself to what he actually said.

And make up your own view, call it fact, and shout down anybody else with an opposing interpretation. We get it. Well done.

Yes, no doubt Brady has identified who he wishes to sign. As of yet (important to note the window is still open), no strikers have been signed. He does not have the authority to complete signings.

There are two possible explanations: either he has failed to identify any reasonable targets, or the club has not (yet) signed any of the reasonable striking targets he has identified. My interpretation is the latter.

I do not understand how any reasonable person can listen to what Brady said and conclude that he is anything other than displeased with the way the transfer window has gone so far. Granted, he may have been blindsided by Cole's demand to leave, which is not the club's fault. But having seen the way Darren Moore was backed and seemingly taken a year out of the game to wait until the right opportunity came along, rejecting jobs he thought would be bad for his career, it would be reasonable to conclude he may privately be having second thoughts about taking the job here.

No player currently at the club has scored more than one league goal this season, aside from Croasdale, who has two league goals. It is not credible to state that Brady was not calling on the club to make a decent signing or two to boost the forward line in that interview.

Anyway back on track for the rumours thread

Just to state that this is clearly a RUMOUR but one for BJ as it's off a twitter account 😉

It links us to a Belgian 2nd division striker  Leandro Rousseau which is a pretty random name to pluck out of the air 22years old and has 11 goals in 21 games

Before this gets ripped apart it is a RUMOUR and that's what this thread is for,so if you dont like it then dont read the thread 🙂
