Serious question, how many of our Conveyor belt of youth in the last say 5 years have gone on to hold down a 1st team place either at the Vale or anywhere else ?

Firstly, a lot of the top talent isn't playing at Vale because they were sold. Secondly, as they were sold to bigger clubs as "future prospects" they aren't going to be first-teamers there either. Most are still teenagers and developing.

For me, success would be that we appear to have got substantial fees for a number of them - Dipepa, Lawrie and Mills for instance.

Or you could be saddled with a manager who prefers to sign an expensive 29 year old in your position. Managers will always priorities their own signings!

But if that 29 year old is a better player in the managers eyes then he will always go for him. Let’s be honest a managers reign is short, he’s after success for himself in the short term. So whilst the clubs vision may be to develop young lads the managers has to juggle that with  bringing success and keeping his job.

It is in terms of generating money.

I dare say neither you nor I know how much money we made from those academy lads sales.

Yes. Short termism is not conducive to developing talent

I have no clue, I know the fees for academy players are based on a set sliding scale that favours the bigger clubs so they aren’t paying as much as they used to back in the day. Which is why they add clauses in for future sell ons etc.  But I bet the club class it as a success. Generate a bit of money now and add in some clauses for their career later.

But as fans, if we had success and got promoted with say Croasdale playing regularly in midfield instead of Walters would fans really care? I don’t think they would.

I like the idea of bringing a lad through who then makes 50 /60  first team appearances improves us and then moves on for good money.

I wonder if we have signed anyone yet. Is the deadline 12.00 today for signing and playing tomorrow? I guess we will know at 1.45 tomorrow if not before 😱🤠

No real deadline per se but usually paperwork gets filed by that time so it’s done in time for the game otherwise they can’t play.

The deadline is 7.00pm on Tuesday

The paperwork for signing a player and registration for the league are separate.

Raheem is available on a free.

Not a chance,  he would fail our no <ovf censored> test  with that gun tattoo on his leg. 😁

Don’t worry. Carol is giving Brady her full backing with every last penny this club has to keep us fighting in league 1….we are taking the best the 7th Tier has to offer!

Tyler Magloire could be on move to Port Vale after impressing at Workington

Thats true. It is a big risk trying to develop young players if you are struggling at the wrong end of the table or have a realistic chance of promotion. In the old days you usually only saw young players towards the end of the season if you weren't involved in promotion or relegation.

The more I think about it, the more angry I am about how the players have been treated and used the past two years.

Tolaj played out wide the dropped for half a season. Plays the other half on fire and is now top goal scorer in the league above the one he wasn’t originally deemed good enough in.

Curtis never being given a chance on the wing apart from one away game against Newport (our best game of the promotion season in my opinion) despite coming in with proven pedigree and now going on to have good form elsewhere.

Garrity being forced to play a deeper holding role and not being allowed to arrive late as a second striker.

And ridiculous decisions like Jesse playing wing back, wingers up front etc.

All to fit a horrid, turgid system and style of play.

I just hope whoever comes in is a round peg for a round hole and is given a proper chance because we’ve probably signed some real good quality - the best in years - under Moore and completely wasted it.

Will we even bring anyone in before the deadline? Who would even want to come?

Curtis didn't play in that game against Newport away🤔
