Ryder was brought in to improve the throughput to the first team, like any manager with the background to improve the organisation not to do the work.

How many of the Academy playing the first team now ??

Zero , so he’s failed

They have been poached by Prem teams so a source of income instead.

That makes no sense. Can’t call it a failure when a young lad makes the first team, impresses and then signed by a prem side. That’s more of a success

I aren't sure that's all solely down to him though tbf

Definitely not I agree but some are saying he’s had no impact which I fail to see. As ive posted on here already; it will be interesting to see where he ends up and what this opportunity is. To me, that will give an indication on how big of a loss he is

It doesn't just work in a vacuum though. Go back 2 years and we had Andrew Buah on the bloody bench.

We since changed managers and gave them more say in the direction of team recruitment.

Since then, the playing pathways of Lomax, Shorrock, even Dipepa and Walters for a period all suffered.

I am sure if we still had AC and DF at the helm we'd have seen the likes of Cousins, Zayn Sadiq, Williams etc all getting appearances in and around the first team.

I don't really see how you can BS and say he's failed. So you can read team sheets and stats off a website and decide a player, manager or member of staff is rubbish. Well done, should get you in charge of things at the club!

Why don’t you just share your views. I assume you must think the opposite that Will Ryder deserves sole credit for whatever players have made it (even if only briefly so far) to the first team or been sold on in his time here. I believe some of those players who have made it to the first team were already here, following the usual coaching programmes set out for each age group, which is all groundwork laid by people before him like Sevvy Aslam and Warren Campbell. The overall boss of the academy is never hands on to the extent that people may think. It’s the various coaches through each age group that the players respond to and of course they each need to have their own talent, desire and mentality to succeed too. So in my opinion it’s not a position that’s beyond being replaced when they leave.

I was told Warren Campbell jumped ship and went to Stoke. One of the reasons given was that they had a higher academy status than ourselves.

Serious question, how many of our Conveyor belt of youth in the last say 5 years have gone on to hold down a 1st team place either at the Vale or anywhere else ?

IMO it's between Bolton and Huddersfield for his signature but I reckon he will end up going to Bolton given that they have tried to get the Rotherham striker (Nombe) for £2M but Rotherham have told Bolton that he isn't going anywhere. So, I imagine Bolton will give up on him and pursue other options instead thus ending up with Devante.

Bolton have emerged as favourites to sign Ryan Hardie from Wrexham

They are grade 1, if not higher,  Vale are Grade 3 as academy go no comparison

Tommy McDermott is struggling to hold down a playing place at Shrews on loan from Burnley.

Baylee has not been in the Soton U21s for the last few weeks, but they recently changed head coach there. He was called up for England U19 back in September and played (and scored), but not picked again since.

Joel Ndala is currently in the Hull City team and England U20.

Freddie Lawrie has had an appearance in PLU18 League.

Struggling to think of many others, but if people have a list of names to throw at me I'd check them out.

John Clarke went to Reading and played 3 times.

Michael Mills is only 16 but playing for Newcastle U18s.

Implied to believe that they had a good team. A lad called Dave Ashford ‘gnasher’ also played for them.

Ours wasn't too bad. I played 85/86 as I remember. Can't say I remember Dave.

mighty Will Ryder got a job yet?

You know its a bad transfer window when the only talk going is about the youth team  coach.
