Very good signing.

On average he is scoring 5 goals per season. I think if we are looking for a forward to step in for Stockley it should be someone young and who can atleast score 10 goals per season. 5 goals a season isn't good enough.

How many players turn up at a club with an average or poor track record then go on to be a huge success in a different environment? Purely judging a striker or f stats or a thread from 4 years ago is futile and quite short sighted.

Off the top of my head Sonjie,Constantine,Richard’s,Pope,Brooker hardly set the world alight elsewhere before joining us.

Most of them lads were young and pope never really went anywhere else. The stats show he hasn't performed well. 7 different clubs with his goals per season average being around 5. He's been at plenty of clubs and nothing has changed. He's had all the time in the world to prove himself and is most likely past his prime. You say stats don't matter but they do! Who's the better forward the lad who averages 15 goals per season or the one who averages 5? So stats do matter, especially in a position where the only stat that matters is the the number of goals you can get in the back of the net. Sure for other positions stats aren't alway so clear as it doesn't matter so much how many goals your centre backs score.

This is what i meant about players still being announced when the window is shut for the week(or is it today it shuts)

It’s my understanding out of contract players are free to sign as it’s not transaction between clubs. It’s no different than us signing Harper as a free agent in Oct per when the transfer window was shut.

I could be mistaken though as I didn’t read the small print on the release.

Signing permanent strikers has been a problem for the club for a number of seasons.  We've rarely started a season with more than 2. Last season we had 3 which was an aberration. We've topped it up with loans. Even that is problematic as the better loans don't tend to go to clubs with a couple of obvious first choices. Decent strikers are incredibly expensive.  In terms of attacking options Stockley,  Tolaj, Richards, Curtis and Paton is as good as we've had in close season since the days of Brooker, McPhee, Armstrong and MBW. We need some form of depth because Stockley isn't going to play 46 x 90 minutes. There's also obviously a question mark over Paton. The real issue though is Stockley. Moore's options are probably rotation of games, or look to substitute him at about the 60 minute mark. If he takes the second option he can probably look at a player whose more of a hybrid centreforward than a direct replacement. Some ability to hold the ball up and enough pace to try and stretch defenders.

Malik Willis fits that profile.👀

If we weren't so stocked at wingback I would have definitely gone for him. Bradford have made a couple of risky signings so far but this one is good. Going to be some good teams next year. It would settle me down a bit if we made a couple of marquee signings in the next week or so. Feels like we'll need 2 or 3 more very decent players to compete.

This interesting from the Peterborough United owner

Ok if stats are important this 6ft 2in striker won 70% of his aerial duels last season and almost 70% passing accuracy. Only made 13 starts, I’ve never sseen him play but that tells me he’s used as a battering ram to bring people into play creating space for others rather than a goal scorer and help manage games. Sounds like he’s a mobile Stockley understudy to me which is what we need.

BTW Pope had stats like that at Rotherham and here until Richard’s left and was given the main striker role. The rest is history.

We aren’t signing another 10 goal striker you need to be realistic.Listen to Matt’s interview, we are not shopping for the big expensive brand players. Our budget will not allow  it.

I'm not sure whether I agree with him. We will offer 4 or 5k per week to the right players. Rumour has it that Byers is on more than that.

I mentioned him.  I don't think he's ready to play regularly.  I think he's worth a look as a trialist, with a view to a one year contract. He'd probably need loaning out at Conference level for part of the season. Moore and our Head of Recruitment will know all about him. He's a little bigger than his dad.

I do think we will be in the market for lets say a couple of chancers like we did with John and Edwards, one worked and one didn't so that makes it worthwhile imo

I would take him and he certainly fits the profile of the experienced pacey forward who can get around players

I’d say he is probably right if he was talking 18 months ago before the company sale/investment Carol had but would imagine 4s and 5s are probably right now, Ronan, Stockley, Byers surely wouldn’t be here on 2k or less a week!

That would put our wage budget of say 24 players on £2k a week max at around £2.5 million which is well below what’s is likely the case, bearing in mind Hancock said our overall expenditure was £12 million so would be a small output of that on wages if the case.

Is a 10 goal striker that unrealistic? It’s only 1 in 4 games I wouldn’t even say that’s a particularly good record.

For every Pope there is a Ryan Loft and there are plenty more who turn out like Loft than Pope.

Hanlan was out for 11 months not too long ago, got be better options out there surely?

With Stockleys injury record last season I would like a player good enough to start and play as much as Stockley, similar to what we look to be doing at RWB.

This is spot on , since the synectics sale we have moved on wages wise
