Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Probably not strengthened your argument by adding Paton. It is a different situation now. Tolaj is pretty clearly established as a first choice. When we signed Paton and Tolaj there was a clear position up for grabs. We missed out on Harry Smith to Macclesfield a few years ago purely because Tom Pope was clearly going to be first choice.

Someone Moore may bring in on a 12 month contract is Kobei Moore. Come up through Villa's books when Moore was doing youth work at WBA. Got some league experience at Fleetwood.  We haven't got a young centreforward coming through. I'm sure there will be a experienced striker through the door but probably not 2 with Paton and Curtis is the squad.

Yes Sproson thinks Moore will be looking for a small quick but experienced striker who can run in behind defences

I keep forgetting we still have Ojo on the books. I wonder if it will be a transfer or a mutual agreement to end his contract

Or and very much unlikely he gets a second chance.

On his day he can be a solid midfielder but then other days he was lazy and seemed like he couldn't be arsed to run. Then theres the rumours of shocking attitude behind the scenes

I don’t think we get a better target man than Stockley currently. He starts when fit.

The challenge is finding someone who can do similar things to him and is willing to come to be back-up. Tough.

I think you're right about Stockley. There are strikers who are a bit different to Stockley but not many who can do what he does as well. He's been a top end League 1 bottom half Championship centreforward for most of his career. There isn't a magic Jayden Stockley tree sitting in a back garden in Middleport. Buying someone better and younger would mean paying Championship wages. Even someone nearly as good with the same attributes would be expecting to start in league 1/2. I suspect we'll end up signing someone a little different and having to adapt how we play when he's out. There was a story on twitter linking us to Solomon Tovide a couple of days ago.

Imho, another striker wouldn't be a back-up, but an alternate.

In a 55-60 game season, you would hope to get say 25 starts from each of your main strikers, and a further 15-20 appearances when subbed on.

Spreading the workload throughout the squad, as Darren & Co managed so successfully this season gone.

Considering our midfield is already pretty good, even for this level, I wouldn't be surprised if we kept him to save cash. He's got the skill it's just his attitude.

Someone mentioned Kobei Moore earlier, has he been released by Villa? maybe we know a little about him with having Richards off them. Not that it makes any difference but he is the son of Stefan Moore who came on loan here

Signing permanent strikers has been a problem for the club for a number of seasons.  We've rarely started a season with more than 2. Last season we had 3 which was an aberration. We've topped it up with loans. Even that is problematic as the better loans don't tend to go to clubs with a couple of obvious first choices. Decent strikers are incredibly expensive.  In terms of attacking options Stockley,  Tolaj, Richards, Curtis and Paton is as good as we've had in close season since the days of Brooker, McPhee, Armstrong and MBW. We need some form of depth because Stockley isn't going to play 46 x 90 minutes. There's also obviously a question mark over Paton. The real issue though is Stockley. Moore's options are probably rotation of games, or look to substitute him at about the 60 minute mark. If he takes the second option he can probably look at a player whose more of a hybrid centreforward than a direct replacement. Some ability to hold the ball up and enough pace to try and stretch defenders.

Not sure at this level, has to be players of a similar ability to him. Injuries are a big concern as well

That’s true especially with Stockleys record. Just 55-60 games is slightly ambitious

I mentioned him.  I don't think he's ready to play regularly.  I think he's worth a look as a trialist, with a view to a one year contract. He'd probably need loaning out at Conference level for part of the season. Moore and our Head of Recruitment will know all about him. He's a little bigger than his dad.

I think you just can't register players. There's no reason they can't sign a contract.
