It's nice that we were in for this calibre of player, but my point has been proven that many of you tried to knock me for - if a player has the choice between us and an established L1 club, they are going to the established L1 club.

The Jordan Gabriel signing can be used equally to disprove what you say.

Ultimately at the moment Blackpool are a bigger fish than us. Kept decent support after flirtation with the Premier and Championship.

I've been there with 2000 Vale and the gate was maybe 6000 ish.

They will be able to for the player,  hopefully challenge for the top rather than choose us , a club hoping to consolidate.

I think we'll still be able to attract a decent calibre of player though.

Can't blame Ihiekwe for his ambitions, only natural.

League One experience of getting relegated.

Seems to be a common thing among some supporters to want to keep some players who have this vital experience of getting relegated back into League 2. 😆

I'd much rather we have somebody young and hungry than Ojo who if he doesn't leave this summer is surely just getting released end of season anyway.

I wonder whether we might actually consider trying to mutually agree a termination if he's not gone by end of the transfer window?

My guess is it’ll be a Conor Grant type situation where at the end of the window we’ll agree some sort of severance and then he can choose his next club to go to even after the window shuts as a free agent. Realistically at his age nobody is paying anything for him. I certainly don’t see a future at Vale, I seem to remember him slating our pitch after he joined Shrews so can’t imagine he’d want to lower himself to playing on that either.

Phil,

This was already discussed in another thread.

Last season, we played 46 League games, 1 FA Cup game, 1 League Cup game, 5 EFL Trophy games = 53 games total (not counting pre-season games).

In the coming 2025-26 season, we only have to do slightly better in one or more of the Cups to move into the 55-60 games range.

Can’t count EFL trophy games as we will always play the reserves.

Phil,

With respect, that is not a valid argument.

For example, the Round 2 line-up below, and the other EFLT games had equally strong line-ups.

Perhaps our greatest strength last season was our squad depth and our management distributing the workload across that squad.

That's why, to return to the actual debate, a striker incoming will not be a back-up, but will be an integral part of the squad and will play a full part across the season.

We have a big midfield so I'd just keep him to fill in occasionally like lowe last season. Maybe if we compete for midtable he might put his dummy back in 😂

Or maybe he can just fook off

In other news Poundland get sold for.... £1. I wonder if Walsall can invest all of it 😁

Bare minimum we need now is a keeper, striker and 2 new centre backs

All of these signings need to be starting players

A strong defence will mean we don't leak to many goals increasing our chances of finishing higher up the table

another striker to sit up top with tolaj will increase our chances of scoring (10 goal a season stricker minimum) also increasing our chances of finishing higher up

I want someone who is actually good and scores goals so we can give the opposition defence a real problem

We can't have a repeat of lofty and uche

Maybe if we had a half decent stricker that year in league 1 we wouldn't have been relegated

I don't think our midfield needs any work

Then all we need is some loan players to help with injuries etc

Apparently MK have a deal lined up to sign Aaron Collins from Bolton. That is some signing if they pull that one off for L2.
