John doesn't at the minute.

He the option of an extra year I think it is,in the clubs favour but that obviously hasn't been activated as yet,I guess because wages will be affected if we go up

From the out of contract defensive players, I'd be keen for John, Smith and Clark to all sign up.

We'd still need some defensive additions if we go up (another central defender for a start) but I think all of the above three could hold their own in L1 and are deserving of new contracts.

I think the management team if(i do need to keep saying if) we go up will be making some tough decisions on contracts and some we wont agree with that's a given but it's what they are paid for and we have to trust them as they didn't do to bad last summer

We might also be surprised on who comes in as well i guess

It will depend, as always on budget and our ambition in L1.

If DM can attract the likes of Amos,Henegan,Byers,Stockley,Curtis & Tolaj in L2 the prospect of players in L1 is really exciting.

I feel we have enough out of contract players to upgrade the 1st eleven in critical areas but I suspect a few contracted players will also be moved on. Like you say some tough decisions coming.

We have to trust DM, he’s proven to be a good judge of player ability and character.

How do kids get experience if we aren’t prepared to have them as backups? I have no problem with either Plant or Shorrock as backup WB’s.

I think we need 3 senior WB’s  - the issue is the injury records of Clarke and John to lesser extent.

That’s the conundrum.

By doing what he’s (Plant) doing now, going out on loan to a lower level instead of us, to an extent, making do by having that inexperience on the bench. Unfortunately he picked up that leg injury.

I’m not at all talking about Plant here but we’ve had a taste of Châteauneuf-du-Pape by having Curtis, Byers etc on the bench as our backup options instead of the Poundland Lambrini of many seasons this century. If we can maintain that kind of squad balance in L1 with new signings at Clark’s/John’s level I’ll go mental and get about 17 season tickets 😃

Think we are fairly well stocked at wing back even if we go up, don't think Hart is ideal for L1 and Jones will go, Sang I don't think is great at wing back.

I'd look at:

Left Wing Back - Headley/Shorrock/John

Right Wing Back - Clark/Imray/John

As your options.

Central Midfield sorted, try and keep Rico Richards and replace Chistett if he leaves.

Could we tempt Smith from Wednesday and have Smith/Stockley/Tolaj/Paton plus a young loanee?

Then sort the central defence.

Paton will be at another club come the start of next season

This wont be popular with some on here but i can honestly see us trying to get some interest for Paton like with Ojo who will still have 12mths on his deal left,so we might need 2 or 3 forwards in.

I actually think at 34 Smith might get released by Sheff Wed and if that's the case i have no doubt that DM will be talking to him(maybe a 2yr deal). DM will certainly be backed in League One and he will have some quality players lined up imo

I was more putting Paton in there as he is with the club so may well move on, Curtis is also an option up front if needed and is obviously League One standard I guess.

Smith and Stockley - two big men up front is very much a Darren Moore strike force.

You will need to buy   170 season tickets to fund the equivalent bench warmers in L1 🤣

The club have already said they have an option to extend. I would have thought there is close to zero chance we don't take up the option.

I am sure we will also be on the look out for a couple of released Academy players in the hope of finding another Gem like John

I think Moore will be looking to build a squad that wont be there just to survive in League One,he will want to build one that will compete at that level and maybe aim for a top 10 finish(it can be done) and is the manager to attract players that you wouldn't expect us to sign.

I think we might obviously look at some of the best players in league 2 who dont go up along with the better ones from teams relegated from league one this season, mix that with a couple of loans and a couple of chancers along with 2 or 3 proven at this level then we will be ready to go 🙂 I know some dont see it but i can see a fair sized rebuild incoming

I think he should be looking at players struggling to get in sides in the Championship.

Buy Championship players for EFL1 and let's see if we can get them to take us up...

I usually hate the end of the season coming around but I am quite excited for this one,to see the retained and considering he didn't have chance to last season I am excited to see who he can attract to us if we are playing league one football next season,we have seen the calibre at league 2 level

I think it will still be a case of the best we can afford. The gulf between average Championship salaries and League 1 is massive,  about 6k a week. If we can get the right player within our budget I'm sure we will. Equally there are some good players in most league 2 sides who probably can make the jump. We won't be able to compete with recently relegated sides for obvious targets so Moore is going to need to look at all avenues to improve us.
