Funchal, beautiful city (and Island to be fair), his museum around the corner from the statue is quite something, more trophies than most clubs have !

And this would be him after a season of League One defenders... :whistling:

We might have needed him if Rico / Curtis got injured. That gap could have cost us points and a menial fee wouldn’t be worth that risk to derailing our promotion push. Turns out we didn’t need him, he got paid his contract and now we don’t need him and don’t need to pay him.

Totally. I think the point is that nowhere has it been mentioned what the fee was. It could have been so small as to have been meaningless from a financial perspective and having him still around just in case he was needed was the right thing to do, IMO. That's why they have contracts. It feels a lot more like his attitude wasn't there once he got the hump in January and hence never really threatened getting back into the team unless we'd have been plagued by midfield injuries. All of the comments that have come out from him over the past month or so point to an attitude problem on his part rather than DM, from what I can see.

I'm not sure it's an "attitude". Let's look back at the season -

1. He never went public with this until after the season.

2. He never downed tools and still played for us.

I see it more as a professional wanting to play more and being frustrated. Wouldn't we all be like that if we were not getting picked and a move to a club where you could get regular football was rejected?

That's not to say Vale's stance wasn't right either - they wanted to hold on to an important squad player and were clearly entitled to do so.

So, I think both sides were only doing what they thought was right for themselves - Vale not letting a valuable player go / Chislett trying to get regular football.

With what Moore did with Chisie, would that put other players off signing for the club, word does get around.

What Moore did was not right, stopped us getting a fee, and stopped Chisie signing for another club.

I dont go with if there was an injury crisis he would have played him he would'nt, seems Moore cost us money there, and I still think Chisie gave us other options.

Did Chislett play a minute after January? As he did then Moore was right to keep him. He didn't have to sign a 2 year deal.

Since Feb 1st, Chislett came on as a second half substitute against Bradford, Fleetwood, Tranmere and Salford.

Maybe it was a promotion rival, maybe didn’t expect Walters to come through so quickly, maybe couldn’t get the replacement for him we wanted so decided to keep the group together

All possibilities for the rationale.  Easy in hindsight, but of course it didn't work out that way!

I imagine the nominal fee it would have entailed for a player months away from contract expiration wasn't worth it.

If we'd had an injury crisis or gone back to playing with wingers then it was worth keeping him around. As so happens, 352 worked very well, Stockley and Tolaj were pretty fit, and Chislett wasn't needed. If we'd sold him for buttons and then needed him, there'd have been uproar.

I can't fault the logic in your argument and you may well be corect in those assumptions. I guess I was just looking behind the logic to possibly more emotional reasonings inasmuch as it was pretty obvious that, for whatever reasons, DM didn't have much faith in Chizzy.

Yep, you're probably not far off with those assumptions .  Except they are of course, only assumptions as we don't know what the fee actually being discussed was and according to Chizzy's quote it had been agreed before the club supposedly changed its mind.  I guess we'll never know and in any case, I except that it's now done & dusted and a case of moving on for both PV & Ethan.

DM did the right thing with regards Chiz. We don't know how much was offered and who offered it.... We also don't know whether Chiz might have been needed had we suffered injuries in his position.

I'm much happier that we kept him in the club just in case, rather than getting rid for a nominal fee and having no cover, potentially derailing our promotion bid. The same people would have been moaning their bag off had we sold him and then been left short.

I'm sure some of our fans don't think things through before spouting about them.
