Match thread: Port Vale v Doncaster Rovers, 31st Aug

See that Barrow drawn away at Chelsea in EFL cup. That would’ve been a nice game to go to had vale have beaten them!!

We would have needed to have beaten Derby first Lol 😂

Dull to watch equals fans not wanting to attend games which in turn creates a problem for both Darren Moore & Carol

Unfortunately the majority of us

won't tolerate dull negative football😬

Genuine question.

We're 2nd after 42 games, on the verge of promotion, built upon a tight defense. Most games aren't very exciting to watch.

Do you attend the 43rd game or not?

My view is that if you support a 4th tier football club, one which is between the 68th and 92nd best team in the country, you're a bit entitled if you're going to demand consistent winning football AND entertaining football.

I think every fan has concerns about Moore at present, but I do feel a bit sorry for those who have gone so aggressive/obsessive on him this early. We're three league games in and they're already in a position of half-hoping we lose games so Moore is sacked.

Nuked their enjoyment of Port Vale games until he's gone.

I've got my opinion and you've got yours

It is what is , we'll have to agree to disagree 🙈😂

Would we have beaten Derby even? No, we wouldn't have played Derby. All depends when and how the balls are allocated. Lovely dream, never seen us play Chelsea, but would have gone.

my brother in Perth WA will be happy
Off topic but I think Barry who ran the guess the gate comp loves in Perth, is that your brother?

Never played Chelsea in all my 63 years of supporting the club. Hopefully 3rd round draw FA cup🤞

Obviously a huge response needed, a positive one. But it will no doubt be the same negative 5 at the back, Paton roaming around up front on his own again, a thankless task, and some of our more exciting and pacey players on the bench.

And you sitting on the sofa, dropping crumbs down your red and white shirt, while putting together your next dishonest negation to post.

You're just upset because I won't give up my time to participate in your weird Vale Park quiz, you creepy old man.

I think some people just demand or expect positive, front foot football at home where you look to take the game to the opposition, win, lose or draw. Not playing 5 at the back every game and one striker up top given next to no chance. We've signed all these good attacking players and yet barely create a few chances each game under Darren Moore.

We've struggled to create lots of chances for a good while now.

I'm torn between playing for 1-0 wins every week, or a bit of entertainment. Notts County tried the latter route last season and finished near the bottom, whereas often the teams that get promoted grind out the wins.

In terms of this league, I'd be inclined to just grind out results, as you're coming up against some real cloggers who will sit in and make life difficult.

It won't please the natives but I think it's the best way to get promoted.

It doesn't have to be only one of the above, over the course of a long season.

Playing it tight and mainly defensive now at the beginning of the season might well be the right course.

But then, as the season progresses, evolving towards a more free-flowing attacking style, as all of the new players build up their intuitive understanding with each other, and also as all of the young players in the squad build up to Football League standards of strength and speed of reaction.

In fact I can't even be bothered to go to my own team's Incinerator ground, I just sit at home posting anti-Vale rubbish.

Corrected for you, hope that helps.
