The only reason I can see why Weir is even at Brighton is because of his old man. Was a massive flop for us

He obviously got enough game time to make us happy to send you another loan! 10 goals from midfield in a League1 relegation team does suggest there's more to him than just his dad!

Can’t take away his loan at morecambe was a successful one but his other 3 loans haven’t been great. Far from it, I think his next move could be a big one in terms of his career now. Like I said if his dad wasn’t working at Brighton I don’t think he’d still be with you myself, or even have signed in the first place. Just my opinion of course

He was hopeless. I know it was tough for us given how poor we were but I don’t think he did anything what so ever and so no quality at all. Him and Gore were as bad as loan signings as you could get.

He had a good half season at Lincoln too, before it was curtailed by injury, but no doubt things didn't go well for him last season, for whatever reasons. Wonder what's next for him - all very quiet at the moment.

Changing the subject, how is Tolaj doing? (He was one of ours too)

I just think Weir wasn't in the same class as Arblaster and Devine(we were spoilt with those 2 lets be honest).  Compared to them he was a flop but that's a pretty high bar, just goes to show you shouldn't rely on loanees as the heart of the team.  The lack of goals from strikers and god awful defending were more to blame than Weir imo, any other time and had we finished mid-table/stayed we'd have said he was steady thanked him and waved him on his way.   I wouldn't say he was anything special but will probably go on to have a steady lower league career I'd imagine.

He had a tremendous Wembley final appearance which skews the view of his whole loan. It was a huge success because he scored a goal in the game that mattered but he was hardly pulling up trees throughout his loan. He was very much in and out of the team during his loan period.

You're right there, Harratt was good his first couple of games(Brentford in the cup and Swindon at home), the Mansfield home game and then the 2nd leg of the play semi and final.  Basically he pulled out 2 big performances at the right moment, as you say the majority of his loan was pretty mediocre.  That's not to say he's not talented and won't go on to have a decent career but his loan spell does get overhyped by Vale fans.  Understandably so in one sense as Wembley was a memorable day for us and he was one of the stars of it.

Typically, Phil Bowers has now posted an interview with DM - sounds like they've made offers to the trialist/s and are waiting to sort something - he said hopefully by the weekend.

It depends, id argue harratt had a decent loan and he wasnt recalled, if the team is chasing promotion like we should be this season they will lean to keeping him for the experience but yea theres never any guarantee.

He joined us in January scoring against Brentford on debut in FA cup 3rd round. Both Harratt and Edmondson did a good job for us in the 3/4 months they were with us*.  Can’t remember if we had a ‘season-long’ loan that season when DC signed a hatful of permanents during the Summer.

*it’s difficult to rate loan deals objectively now since it’s hard not to compare them with Arblaster, who was the exception rather than the rule.

DM has said ‘Talks ongoing’ with regards to trialists would indicate negotiations are now taking place.

Also love how DM has started to say The Vale.

Tolaj is still raw even at L2 level, but he shows plenty of potential and a lot of commitment.

Feel confident he's going to grow at least into a decent player, and maybe more.

No press release yet and Phil Bowers’ interview not airing until 6 might imply that there’ll be a 5pm announcement?

DM is on live at 6 with Bowers for an hour on Radio Stoke
