Slow loading and freezing

Recommended Posts

Can I thank @manc_vale again for his help on getting under the bonnet and taking a look at OVF. The site has been so much better since he put the fixes in place.

If you do experience issues please do post on this thread as requested.

Hello all,

Technical magician @manc_vale has been doing some more tweaks on the site.

One of the things we tried last night was adding Cloudflare - this is a cloud-based cache which saves images, scripts and so on - reducing the load on the OVF server itself. This should have a significant effect on slow OVF periods.

The bad news was it didn't work on the first attempt.

We (well, I say "we" but mostly @manc_vale) will try it again. It will probably be during a late night, quiet time but there's a chance OVF may be unavailable for a bit when it's done.

We will post an update on here when we plan to do it just so you are all aware.

Thanks,

Rob

Is there an option in the forum software to bring back the 'go to last unread' button in threads? When you open one now it by default goes to the last posted message, which could mean scrolling back through several pages of new content when trying to work out where you were. Cheers.

Hi @Doha request received and I'll look into it. I may have accidentally switched off that option when I was switching various options off to save on bandwidth etc during the slow times. I need to ask the forum support team what's possible (and what I need to switch on if so - the backend of the forum is somewhat complex so it's sometimes tricky to find the correct option). It may be a day or two before I know - but I'll pose the question and come back to you

Sorry to say yes i am     i am 73yrs old and not very good with tec stuff

@rsb  Let me try this possibility. Are you logging in because you see a login button on the front page?

Whenever I visit from front page of OVF, I also get a login button. However if I ignore it and press Forum I find that I am actually still logged in. See image below for what I see on the front page. It shows a login button even though I am logged in.

Maybe if you pressed Forum from the front page you will find you are logged in from the last time.

It might be something else, but interested to know what happens when you try the above.
