As for Selwyn Whalley, hard as nails. Remember once at the end of a reserve game some lads from Hanley High gave him a bit of good-natured stick and he told 'em he'd see them on the Monday. Bet they had a few sleepless nights at the prospect of 'Sandy' his sawn off cricket bat! Caught me talking once in assembly and made me get up on the stage in front of the whole school and do a dozen press-ups. Didna do it again 😀

Anyone else remember Sam Collins dumping Danny Shittu into the disabled enclosure at Loftus Rd? Think he’d left the boot in on a vale forward and big Sam was having none of it. Or did I dream it!

I can remember a game at the old Shrewsbury ground adjacent to the river. Vale winning as time ticked on and Selwyn wellying every ball that came anywhere near him as far as possible into the river.

The poor sod that used that coracle to go and fetch them must have been nackered.

And here's a photo of the hard man himself with the school team. Looks pleasant enough...until he got on the pitch 😀

Some on here might recognise the players but I connor remember a single one!
