Burton (H) match thread Sep 19th

Featured Replies

It had to come to an end at some point but that was utterly howling tonight. I'm somewhat amazed at how different a side we looked compared to recent games, it was like a switch had been flicked.

That's the shitter performance out of the way, it was coming eventually, move on and fix it on Saturday now.

Typical Maamria timewasting and cheating enabled by an appallingly weak referee.

I read a comment earlier about Ripley needing to come out and save the first. He did, but hesitated, and moved back. Like he did for the 1st against Barnsley.

Thought the Burton support was terrible.

So was the Vale support. I thought we were a team trying to get top spot tonight but the support says different

after following vale for over 50 years that was the most typical Vale performance. I hate it when we play teams who haven't won,you just know what's going to happen.Onto the next match

Can someone explain why the manager didn't use Loft at any point? Surely bringing someone on with a physical presence would have given them something different to think about in the second half. And whats happened to Thomas, is he injured or suddenly not fancied?

'Andy Crosby confirms that Ryan Loft felt pain in his calf during warm-up and had to sit out of the match whilst Josh Thomas missed out through illness'

Not going to have a go at the performance tonight because no one could have predicted where we would be at this stage of the season come 7.45pm tonight. Unbelievable effort from the lads since the first game of the season.

Biased comments on here very predictable and could slaughter most comments so far on here tonight for that.

My favourite part of the night was most of the second half when Phil Sproson had to keep stepping & putting Phil Bowers right on various situations happening on the pitch for eg when their was a clash of heads in the second half between one of our players and one of their players in their 6 yard box. Bowers was moaning at the Burton physio's running straight onto the pitch and Sproson rightly putting him right that it was a legitimate head injury and you can not take risks when comes to a blow to the head.

This happened many times through the second half when Sproson kept putting Bowers in his place.

My man of the match tonight is Phil Sproson - well played sproey

Good to see you supporting the team at the game then!

It’s never nice losing but we’ll play worse than that and win games this season. I prefer to stress the positives tonight. Still a great start to the season, Crosby has us playing a lovely style of football, and it’s a privilege to watch Ollie Arblaster. Happy Clapper, over and out!

Thought the defending tonight was awful, terrible mistake by Ripley for the first goal, his ball all day long, he has to come out and either claim it or punch it away.  We do well get back into the game and then completely switch off from a corner and back up against it.  Some of the attacking play was good with some nice moves when we quickened the play up but overall too many backward and sideways passing, certainly missed Chislett tonight.  I don't like moaning about the refs but tonight he was awful, he booked the keeper early and thought that would mean the timewasting would not continue but it got worse, is there something in the rule book that says you can't receive 2 yellows for this as that was a joke what he got away with.

Lastly the attendance tonight is shocking and probably get accused of going overboard but less than 6000 for a team who have put in decent performances, chance to go top, it was embarassing.  We had over a 1000 more when playing them last season on an awful run, yes it was a Saturday game then but I was expecting minimum 7000 Vale fans, it really shocked me that gate tonight and more concerned by that than the actual performance, if we can't get gates now when will we.

Agree. Loft had to come on to alter it last 10. Bombard their box. Found it odd.

Also Hamil clapping their keeper on for the 2nd half. What was that about . It's not The Kop. We should of been booing and heckling him onto the pitch not polite applause.

You had us nailed on for relegation so I don't really think you can throw that insult around to be fair Brian.

Burton were time wasting and I was under the impression that they couldn't do that this season

It really wasn’t. The result might have been typical but performance wise it was a far cry from the useless lump it and hope that the last decade or so has brought us.

We've had 19 shots, 9 on target and 2 goals. Burton had 8 shots, 3 on target and 3 goals.

Their keeper had a worldy. But we gave the ball away and did not defend well enough.

However, I am going to say the players tried their hardest. Also the Burton manager had some clever tactics and particularly stopping right side passing in the first half forcing us to go left. Also stopping Ojo having the ball.

Live and learn. I still think we will do well this season.

The start of the season surprised everybody involved in football and at the club and I have put my money where my mouth is with many posters in which many charities are going to benefit from my crap predictions.

Vale time waste when they are winning - sa la vie

I actually thought as a team we were really good but a couple of poor individual performances and mistakes.

Because Wilson was playing well including in the last few minutes where he was the one creating chances?

When you're losing the game can you not bring on another striker to play alongside Wilson or something?
