18 shots, 8 on target for the Vale

Only thing that matters is goals. Vale's defence was found out tonight. No answer to pace against them.

Credit to them...worked their socks off and did the dark arts well! 3 very poor goals to concede but we really couldn't just find that spark. Having said how many times did their keeper keep them in it with his legs? Oh well onto Satdee....disappointing but every days a school day  and I think Ollie will have learned a lot from that today. Funso wasn't at it at all..which didn't help.

...and 3 shots and 3 goals for them....
That's football. This result isn't a bad thing. It'll bring the lads back down to earth abit. We aren't going to win every single game and this defeat gives the gaffer more to think about, and how to counter a set up similar to Burtons.
I should doubt our defence will be as shoddy as that for quite a while now. UTV

4 very hard games coming up

Watched online, thought we were a combination of poor, brilliant and unlucky. A few takeaways:

- Their keeper had a very good game (or we weren't clinical enough?) thought he kept them in it in the first half and then again with some saves at the end. On the other hand, they took their chances very well.
- Our defending is lightweight. Has seemed solid against some teams but if you put a team of units out against us who work their arses off we'll get shown up. A LOT of their 2nd half chances came from their attackers outmuscling our defenders from a loose/high ball and creating a 2 on 1.
- Also concerned by the goals from crosses, the centre backs and keeper were all looking at each other like they hadn't communicated at all.

But hey, do you remember when we used to be the physical side hammering a skillful, possession based team trying to get them in a smash-and-grab? We're the skillful, possession based side now. You're going to get caught out sometimes. Looking at the stats, we dominated but were punished when we were sloppy. Not the end of the world but definitely a warning with some tough games coming up.

Cannot defend like that and win football matches .

Well done to them .

There goalie made save after save our goalie had nowt do but pick ball out of his net 3 times .

That's football though ive beensaying that we having the run of the ball tonight we defended how we have v other trams but this time Burton were clinical .

Very disappointed with defensive organisation was like pub standard defending .

Shame really because our attacking football deserved a lot better

Some very poor performances tonight but lets face folk were predicting it .

Let's regroup and never defend like that again

Vale didn't play for the first 25-30 mins of the 2nd half but give them credit they battled hard, had some physically strong players, closed down space and were really niggly. Their first two goals were poor goals to concede and their goalkeeper played well.

Bit of an over reaction from Vale fans on OVF.

2 goals in spite of an inspired goalkeeping performance. It’s the 3 sloppy goals we let in is the problem. Poor defending.

Negatives:

Lost against a very poor side and only have ourselves to blame. All they did was work hard and take advantage of <ovf censored> defending.

Had the chance to go top and blew it. We would beat these comfortably playing on a Saturday.

Balmer was awful. Shouldn't start the next game. Yet another defender that looks like he's running through treacle.

Sang isn't and will likely never be a right wing-back. Stop playing square pegs in round holes. Change the formation if you have to.

Devine has yet to show any of the hype he came with, albeit it's still early days. Looks like a boy playing a mans game, which he is.

Positives:

However sloppy we were at times, we were bang unlucky to lose this game.

Arblaster is mint.

We have options and I expect Clarke, Cass and possibly Loft to come into the side on Saturday. Hopefully Chislett is back too.

The most one sided 3-2 loss ever.

Absolutely peppered them for the whole game.

Burton goalkeeper with sore hands he made that many saves.

Don't buy the toothless up front argument, Wilson hit the post with a cracking effort and looked dangerous throughout.

Balmer made errors but so did Iacovitti, 2 massive ones from him second half.

Can't win every game.

Thought the Burton support was terrible.

I thought referees had cracked down on timewasting, it ruined the game again today, it's a plague to football

Can someone explain why the manager didn't use Loft at any point? Surely bringing someone on with a physical presence would have given them something different to think about in the second half. And whats happened to Thomas, is he injured or suddenly not fancied?

Because Wilson was playing well including in the last few minutes where he was the one creating chances?

What's the Burton support got do with it there whatever there following are going home with 3 points what's so terrible about it they rightly be buzzing .

We beat ourselves tonight the defending was shambolic throughout ,they asked very few questions of our back line yet have  scored 3 times it's a absolute mystery to me how they managed that
