Match Thread: FLT G3 Port Vale v Wolverhampton Wdrs U21

Looking at those through in the Northern section of the Pizza Box cup do we think we've got a chance? Sheffield and Derby are out(I doubt they were playing their first 11s but neither are we I guess?).  I believe it's regionalised the next couple of rounds until the last 8.  I'm not sure it's a competition I can get overly excited over but if we got a round or two further would the buzz of another potential trip to Wembley increase interest? Clearly the money for winning in it is helpful but would it be fair to get to say the quarters/semis even final with fringe players then suddenly say oh we're playing the first 11 from the league at Wembley!? It's an interesting one.

Does anyone know how many teams are left in this competition, besides Vale, and when the next draw takes place...??

Tried googling it but getting nowhere fast

We are guaranteed a home draw in the northern section against a runner up except wolves out of the 2nd placed teams in the northern groups. Not sure of the draw date.

The last group game isn’t until 8 November so I don’t think the draw can take place until after that.

They were even on Midlands News at 6.30 a.m yesterday saying they were 3 games unbeaten. Wow!!

We can draw any of the following -

Morecambe - Group A

Tranmere Rovers or Leeds U21 - Group B

Accrington Stanley - Group D

Barnsley - Group E

Derby County, Manchester City U21 or Grimsby Town - Group F

Barrow - Group G

Bradford City - Group H

The draw is usually made on Soccer AM on the Saturday morning after the conclusion of the group games. So based on that it should be on November 12th. According to Sky Sports the 1st round of knockout games are on Wednesday November 30th.

I thought we were given a proper game by Wolves and needed to go into the last 10 mins before winning it. I also thought it showed the depth of our squad. I'm not saying we have a squad thar can challenge for promotion yet. But it is a squad deep enough to keep us out of trouble and push up the league. So this game helped keep our fringe players - but who are pitching for a squad place - match fit.
