Supporters Club - Where are you?

Nottingham Valiant

Recommended Posts

I've joined the supporters club, donated to the fighting fund and want to get things changed as much as anyone. Problem is that there's no direction and no leadership on what action fans should be taking. Some will boycott the game on saturday and stay at home whilst others will go and then shout at a wall with 100 others resulting in a half-arsed attempt at a protest.

What is eneded is mass, co-ordinated protest which will make an undeniable statement and gain national attention. The only way to unify the fans is throught he supporter's club. They have done a fine job in bring the EGM and the potential legal action but they need to provide direction and leadership on general issues too.

Comments please.

I see your point but are you going to step up onto the mantle then lead and direct?

Why do we need someone to tell us not to go though? I've made my decision not to go, I made that decision at the end of last season, I wont be anywhere near Vale Park until the current incumbents are removed, simple as that.

I'm sure the SC are working hard with the other pro-change groups in the background to enforce change, the statement released last Saturday shows that and I'd rather they concentrated on the EGM/Legal action than arranging protests that will in all fairness, be poorly attended regardless of whether they are "official" or not. We found that out last season.

Keep the pressure on for sure, and people are in going to the ground on week days, but we don't need the SC to hold our hands surely. We can continue to do our own little bit, in our own little way, whilst the generals (SC etc) are planning for the final battle (EGM/Legal Action) in the background.

I suppose in your answer lies the problem - we both want them out. Your way for saturday is to stay at home, mine would be to go the game and protest. If all the people of the same mind can do one or the other in unison it will hit home a hell of a lot harder. Imagine a gate of less than 3000 or on the other hand a gate of 4500 but a protest after the game of 1000.

Anyway, opinions clearly differ and you're probably right, it's not the most important part of the war, however, I think it would help.

The big problem with protests is however, that we never get the numbers needed to make an impact, even when advertised. I went up before the Aldershot game, even though I didn't go to the match, for the pre-match protest and the turn out was dismal. And to be frank, prior to this season I was at every protest, even on a cold Tuesday night when only 20 of us could be bothered to turn up after a match, and I'm fed up of shouting at a wall. It needs TOTAL support from the fans, and that will never happen. And I also very much doubt any directors will be present at the moment anyway.

There isn't enough "want" for a protest in my opinion. the majority of fans are to happy to take the easy option and leave it to others. Sure they'll hold up a red card in the ground if given one, that doesn't take too much effort, and that's what we've been fighting against ever since the protests started. A lack of commitment or care for the cause. It's been said many times over, but apathy reigns supreme amongst our fan base, and always has. You only have to look at the reports from people handing out red cards at Macc, with people saying they thought it was over now Deaking had resigned and Miller was no longer chairman.

I think the problem with protests at the moment is quite simple.....

There are a thousand excuses not to do something but only one reason to do it.

Dont disrupt the team

Dont upset the manager

Staff losing jobs

Disturbing the neighbours

Staff feeling threatened

I will protest after the game

I will protest before the game

I will not protest at the game

Etc Etc Etc

Quite a few ideas have been offered for protests....

Honking horns

standing outside for 10 minutes after the kick off then going in

Turning your back on the ground at kick off for 10 minutes

10 minutes total silence

Blocking entrances

total boycott

Sit in after the match

sit in before the match

pitch invasion

Etc Etc Etc

Get together with a few of your mates, decide which one you want to do [or more than one if you are up to it] and do it.... talk to others and see if they will join you or you join them.

Perhaps then we should see B&G taking up the mantle again and galvanising the troops in an organised manner?? Just a thought.

I totally agree Caroline. Let the SC deal with the EGM and legal affairs but we need an interim setup to keep in their faces and distract them from reassuring their defences in the run up to the EGM. Nottingham Valiants makes some good points and i see his point of view. I feel its not a point of waiting to see what happens but we need to be more proactive to oust these crettins. Some OVFers are doing this such as Fritter, Melv, OS, Carpetman and i applaud them we just need a few more to step up to the plate.

We're not talking rocket science here or a lot of work - I mean just a statement in all the local media from the supporter's club either urging people to boycott the game or urging people to turn up and protest either before/during/after the game.

And to be honest, I completely disagree that this battle should have breaks inbetween. This has been running on for a ridiculous amount of time - the end is in sight and everything should be done to keep increasing the pressure. As it stands, saturday will come and go, the team will lose, the protest will be half-hearted at best and that will be the end of another opportunity.

A statement will be issued today with respect to protests, it was written yesterday and we took on board comments after the last home match and not the comments on this thread - I've only just seen them.

Whether the local media give the statement the publicity is up to them as we don't have any control over them
