The opening 15 mins have demonstrated perfectly for me why pope shouldn't be starting and certainly not the captain. Gibbons plays one bad ball and pope is screaming at him. Gibbons then looks bereft of any confidence and promptly makes 2 mistakes in a row

Thought Monty was going to be the answer but looks to me like a new left back in January

New LB because monty gave a peno away ?

No because he keeps making mistakes as he is not a true LB and the commentators have just said he looks scared to receive the ball and gone in his shell.  It is not fair on him to put him in this situation.  Others would say he gets paid so get on with it.

Who will carry the can with Burgess not starting?

Come on Vale , get back in this.

We sound dire. I thought today was a perfect opportunity to match them up 5-3-2. Instead we have two luxury players in Amoo (hopelessly out of form) and Browne (played one half this season) on a really tight pitch and a forward who can’t stop scoring on the bench.

I’m not sure changing our formation to match that of one of the better teams in our league at the moment is wise.

They have practiced it, we haven’t.

If we can keep it to one down we're always in with a chance.

Biddulph PV you've missed off Monty having another mare of a match at LB.

They have done their homework on Monty and terrorising him on that side.

Pope just shouting at the players so far and making mistakes as well.

Just can't see us scoring as we seem to have not started playing the football we know they are capable of.

That’s another reason for playing 5-3-2, allowing him to play further up. The main benefit of our set up should be that we overload them on the flanks, yet none of our wide players appear to be doing anything much so we’re resorting to aiming for Pope which is easy for their 3 centre backs.

Sounds like we are under the cosh, too much coming our way and not enough of Vale on the attack. Think it has been that way for a few games which results have masked. Some will say its results that count but when its one way traffic against us it usually tells.

Exactly Ray.

All clubs target our Left Back, it has been a few seasons now since we had a decent Left Back, we have to do something in January because it is costing us big time.

Probably the easiest thing opposition scouts have to do.  Already written on their paperwork - Vale have not got a decent LB.

Hopefully this is going to be sorted in Jan.

Lucky to get to half time only one goal down. Let's hope Arthur can sort it out because despite everything we're still in this. Looks like we should go 442 at some stage - it's tailor-made for Cullen.
