TT, I think it's very difficult isn't it? I would hope as I say for a re-alignment of centre-left politics, otherwise we're doomed to Tory rule far into the future.

Blair was right. Wilson was right. The electorate don't want a far left government - though tonight they've elected a far right one! But that was the Brexit effect. You would assume that the Tories have won all three Stoke seats. That will be amazing.

The trouble is that tribal loyalties run deep and the Labour left will not want to move towards the middle. But if they lose this badly they really need to smell the coffee and stop pretending.

It won't happen but we need Labour, Liberals and Greens to work together and forge an alliance on the centre/left. They are letting the country down.

Your daily reminder that you dont know what far right means.

No, the selfish people who voted conservative let the country down. I'm lucky, my pension should be safe and I already own my house but how can I look my grandchildren in the eye when we've basically voted for a party that will trash this country. Not going to be green until 2050? People have voted for themselves and their stubborn need to 'win' an argument. I'm ashamed of my country.

One of the saddest immediate things is that Labour had said the government had a moral duty to get people off the streets and were going to ensure that money was available so the homeless would have somewhere safe and warm to sleep this winter. Guess that's gone the way of the wind now. Just saw this on my daughter's tweet account...

If the exit polls are correct then compassion has lost to selfishness. Hope has lost to hate. Empathy has lost to bigotry. This is not what our country should be and frankly, **** anyone that voted for these idiots.

I’ve just checked the BBC exit poll. SoT N 99+% chance Con, SoT S 99+% chance Con, SoT C 96% chance Con. Bever in my life would I have ever forecast this happening.

This is Stoke-on-Trent which 19 years ago had a City Council made up entirely of 60 Labour councillors.

Yes, my father and grandparents would be turning in their graves, with this result. I blame Blair who went on a one man crusade who took Labour too close to the Tories and in doing so, they don’t represent the working class. It’s old fashioned Labour voters that have forced Brexit, through total discontentment.

Blair became PM by being middle of the ground to mid left. Corbyn is a Socialist and too far to the left, not enough support for far left to win an election.

Labour will regroup, get rid of Corbyn and McDowell and will almost definitely get further away from being far left, it’s their only chance.
