Match Thread: Crewe Alex v Port Vale

Recommended Posts

I can’t believe Artell sits in the stand for the first half. Who does he think he is? Jesus Christ he’s an arse.

We were marginally the better side today. I think we are starting to look absolutely solid at the back. One goal conceded from open play in the last 3 games.

Dare we start to think we could be a top 7 side?!

You little beauty, just fantastic. Legge and Smith superb, Worrall outstanding where does he get the energy from. All Vale players played well, if Vale can play with this intensity and add consistency then the play-offs are a distinct possibility, something seemingly way beyond Vale last season.

Thought we played well and Popey's experience was vital second half. Legge and Smiffy were immense but there was no weak links. Hope Montano isn't f'd because he is growing into that role again. The young lads in midfield around Joycey certainly put a shift in today but we looked good and were worth the win. We played some nice stuff too it wasn't just backs to the wall (No pun intended as it was Crewe!🤣

Its going to be a very tight league this year. Some decent sides below us when you look at the table. Hopefully we can stay in and around the playoffs and see what happens. We seem better when teams come at us and much harder to get a result when teams sit back and crowd the midfield.

At least on today's evidence we have stopped conceding those sickening last minute goals.

Courtesy of an IMMENSE reaction save right at the end from Scott Brown.

Pope did really well when he came on and held it up well, night and day vs Bennett. RB is capable of a premier league first touch but his general hold up play and the tactic of using him as that target man just leads to turning the ball over constantly.

Probably a better seat to watch Super Vale away from.

Agree 100%.
Popey is by far the better hold-up player to bring in the wide / mid field player. In fact Benno’ hold-up play is pretty poor. Problem is Benno seems more of an arial threat and has more pace. Pity we can’t mould them together.

What a result!

JA and the team making people on here look more and more daft... I’m suspecting certain individuals will be very very quiet tonight! One in particular will no doubt be searching the records from last year trying to find something to compare us unfavourably too 😂😂😂😂

Isn’t it surprising that when you take away the short term view of certain poor results and look at the bigger picture that things start to become clear.

Improvement from last year, more attacking, better football to watch,2 points off the playoffs!

Keep making the moaners look stupid lads!!

Well said, we are a team and club as a whole that is now transitioning from a club that has been run down to starting to function as a properly run football club.

If we can make the play offs at the end of the season, then that is a massive bonus for fans, players and owners.

I think the fact that at last we have a manager who knows there is more to the side than playing just Pope ball is a big big factor. Mix it appropriate to the games as some have said on here.

Keep this momentum up and the play offs places will be contested after Vale have been promoted via the top three

Brilliant stuff today made all the more pleasing by the intellectually challenged Shunter sitting near us in the big stand. His star performance was when he kept calling Popey a paedophile (he was clearly an expert on the subject). I’d very much like to introduce him to Popey so he can say that to his face. I’ll even call the ambulance for him!!
