It's confusing - Sportsmole and Tablesleague have him on 9 League and 3 others. BBC have him on 10 league goals, so you may be right!

 

If he was on 10 league goals this season then he'd be on 101 total Vale goals.

In today's mercenary world of football, I doubt Wilf's record will ever be broken. A goal every 1.7 games, 164 in total despite not making an appearance for us until he was almost 23 and even leaving us for Stoke for three seasons before returning!

You think of the strikers this club have had and popey is only the 3rd player to reach the land mark he need to be given more respect by some. If it wasn't for his goals we'd be in none league now

He played at a time when the offside rule underwent a major change to benefit the attackers. Same era as Dixie Dean

In truth there is no comparison that can be drawn from comparing Tom with Wilf because in years gone by far more goals were scored because in those days teams won by scoring more than their opponents but today it is more about conceding less than the team which you are playing against.

 

Foyley and Tom is different because Tinman scored most of his goals in a higher level but that said he had better players laying on his chances.

 

I just rejoice in having watched both of these fine strikers ply their trade for our Club.

The sad thing is that if our idiot of an owner hadn't pushed Tom out of the club for two seasons he would probably been getting towards Wilf Kirkham's total by now and over the next couple of years could have topped it. That said he is a LEGEND and more poigiantly is our own LEGEND.
