Call me a cynic, but here goes.

 

Rumours abounded in the summer and early season that The Blue One had not only bought Nuneaton’s ground but also the football club, which was against EFL rules.

 

For weeks, maybe months, no comment was made by Smurfthwaite.

 

Then, out of the blue some unknown buys Nuneaton Town FC.

 

Then just 3 months later, this character then resigns saying he has taken them as far as he could.

 

Does anyone else smell a rat ? I personally smell two or three.

"If" this idea is another Smurthwaite "masterstroke", then I suspect he would of been getting some form of payment from the two Spanish trialists that were here a month or so ago. It begs the question, has he been getting any underhanded payments from all his agent contacts during and after the failed Riberio experiment!!!
