Match Thread: Port Vale v Stevenage

Although draws are keeping us out of the depths, a win would be most welcome. It would put us on 40 points and give us some breathing space with Exeter and Wycombe coming up. Stevenage on 43 points reasonably comfortable in comparison to our previous games, so a fair chance to turn our unbeaten home run into 3 points. No news on Turner yet, nor will the pitch be much drier for the other young lads?

With a couple of defensive injuries in Howkins and Davis it'll be interesting to see how we line up. If they aren't fit then I think we'll go:

Boot

Gibbons Raglan Smith Montano

Tonge Pugh

Worrall Harness Hannant

Forrester

Looking at the table as it stands, it's hard to see anyone other than Barnet and Chesterfield being the two who go down.

It' a shame to lose Chesterfield and keep that drippy Forest Green bunch of mugs.

Maybe a twist to come? 14 Mar 2017, 37 games, except Newport 36, played :

Hartlepools 41,

Notts 40,

Cheltenham 39,

Newport 32,

Orient 32

No news on Turner yet

What news are you expecting on Turner?! Aspin clearly doesn't rate him as one of his top 4 strikers, as Pope, Forrester, Barnett & Wilson are all picked in the squad ahead of him - he's even picked Angus on the bench rather than him.

I'd forget about Turner for the forseeable.

Seems sad but true.

From reading the Barnet match day thread, I have realised many things that had been baffling and concerning me.

Firstly, Hannant playing wide left, rather than centre is to provide cover for Monty.

Tonge and Pugh provide much needed experience.

Playing one up front is to make us harder to beat.

A combination of these realisations and the improved performances have given me more hope than I’ve had for a long time.

We’ve also drawn 5 of the last 7 games; only losing at Swindon to a last minute goal, so we do seem to have become hard to beat.

We are 7 points clear of the drop, with a better goal difference than most around us.

Putting all this together, I’m now concluding that Aspo is utilising his meagre resources to great effect.

Long may it last, and hopefully produce a couple of wins on the way.

What a useful resource this forum can be.

Thanks to those who have been pointing out these factors.

So for Saturday, more of the same; it seems to be working.

Barnet was dire...awful game of football. We only scraped a point due to them being absolutely awful.

We haven't won in 2018 and we're midway through March.

And you want more of the same?

We'll be lucky to pick up any more points playing the same..

Well back on home soil after after two away games which should have yielded 6 points .

Lots of goal attempts in them two games so hopefully ghat continues v Stevenage and Exeter .

Team well im thinking maybe a change of system and going two up front as what i heard on the radio was wilson combined well with forrester when he entered the fray last night so im thinking more of he same .

So same team but Wilson for Tonge yes its attacking but so what its time to put the no win this year to bed .
