Not been tonight.This was always going to be a tough game.

 

Were Mansfield really that much better than Vale? Vale have done pretty well recently.Yes we all know that improvements are needed.Will tonight's result(just one result) give Aspin more of an idea about what happens in the January transfer window.Who goes out,where replacements are needed the most urgent?

Aspo needs to realise quickly that we can't just rock up with any old ***** in the team. Harness, signed as a winger, played as a forward now becomes centre mid as an example. He also needs to consider what worked well, ie 4141. The sooner Whitfield is back the better. Where's Regis? Why's Pike back ? Etc.

First stop in January is to Fleetwood for Neal. A commanding keeper.

All our problems have been cruelly exposed by this defeat and they're mostly in midfield. Relying on a central midfield of two from Pugh, Tonge and Kay (who isn't really a midfielder) is asking for trouble against the better sides in this league, and that is what we got tonight. The fact that Turner is also still our second leading scorer is also a real cause for worry.

 

Back to the drawing board for Aspo, who so far has done brilliantly with the hand he's been dealt. I hope he and Rudgie have managed to identify two or three players to fill these gaps because we desperately need some quality in the centre of the pitch and up front. Reaching escape velocity to get away from this relegation pack is going to take some doing.

Certainly a reality check of where we stand in the league, teams at the top take their chances. Could be Evans sussed us out. Up to Aspin to get us back on track, and for all to learn from tonight.
