European Cup Competitions 17/18

Well Chelsea made work of a pretty poor team while Man United made things harder than it should have been. Fantastic results for Tottenham and Man City while Liverpool will be pretty disappointed not to have won against a decent team (although a draw isn't the end of the world).

Celtic's result was just funny!

Liverpool were frustrating. Should have had the game completely wrapped up at half-time after making Sevilla look quite poor at times. But that 3rd goal never came and once tension inside the stadium crept in the inevitable happened. They could have even lost the game at the very end. A point isn't too bad and both the sides will go through no doubt. They must start taking more of there chances though and be more clinical if they're to do anything. You kinda get the feeling that Liverpool will need to score 3 or 4 to win games against good sides. They're more than capable of doing that, but not every time.

Spurs got the best win of the night against a good Dortmund side. I don't know how anyone can still question Harry Kane. He's up there with the very best in his position and it wouldn't surprise me if one day he doesn't over take Alan Shearer as the highest goal score the Premier League or Premiership has seen.

Man City were very impressive in dismantling an average Feyenoord team, but with with squad and players they have that's what they should be doing under Guardiola. When you consider they had the likes of Danilo, Gundogan, Sterling and Sane on the bench last night, and Kompany (injured) and Toure not even in the match day squad, it's quite frightening for the other teams.

Classic from Keano last night:-

"I wouldn't watch Liverpool if they were playing in my back garden"?

Yes, but many people will realise that Keane made a fool of himself saying that, as the quote was originally about Everton and made by Bob Shankly, who when asked if he would watch Everton said 'If Everton were playing in my back garden I would pull the curtains'.

In fairness to Liverpool, they played it exactly right last night, being patient and ensuring the win without exhausting themselves.

Manchester City were awesome at Naples.

Chelski victims of coming 2nd in their group. Must be honest I don't like the head to head deciding group winners , that said you have to beat the best to be the best.

City clearly have the pick of the bunch, Porto are average at best so bin dippers should qualify.

I'll go for 4 English winners , Chelski being the exception.

I'd agree with most of that, on paper it seems a fairly clear cut draw with only the PSG v Real Madrid and Spurs v Juve being difficult to predict.

Cant see City failing at Basel, and Bayern should beat Besiktas, Roma will dismiss Shaktar, but I'm not sure about Spurs - they could find Juventus more than a handful despite the London club having good group results. So I think 3 English clubs in the last eight.
