When Barca beat Chelsea tonight, only 2 Greed Is Good sides will have made it past the first knock out stage. Two more than I had hoped for, but even those two only progressed at the expense of the two weakest sides to qualify for the knock out stage.

Another European night, another English club defeat. Chelsea beaten comfortably in Barcelona, which shouldn’t come as any surprise especially as they started Giroud. Here’s a little bit of free advice to the Frenchman and all those other Greed Is Good prima donna’s. Stay on your damn feet !Like a certain 5’5” Argentinian who scores 50 goals plus a season. In my nearly 60 years following football, I’ve not seen a better goal scorer than Messi. Why’s he score so many ? Apart from fantastic control, he stays on his feet ! Oh and rarely misses the target. That’s two things ( or is it three ? )up on Giroud. But I will admit the Gaul is better groomed. Sadly, that’s where his better points come to an abrupt end.

City will be favorites and rightly so, but Liverpool are more than capable of putting in two good performances to get through, even more so with the way City play football. They'll need a good result at Anfield, and probably a two goal lead going into the second tie. They'll certainly need to keep all 11 players on the pitch! All said done it should be two terrific games and with lots of goals.

 

And good luck to United too in their tie against... Oh, wait!
