Signings - Part 2

If we can loan out keepers and they don't cost much on a net basis then having them is sensible in development terms and in cover terms. As I understand it players can't be signed or loaned between windows and so with a specialist position if you have just two keepers in the squad the team will be down to a single player if one gets injured - as Neal did for example.

I think Boot has potential, but he needs to develop as I didn't think in the game I saw him that he was ready for League 1. In particular judgement on coming out was suspect. He has got a chance, so keeping him in play contract wise is probably right.

People moan about injury prone players we sign and the goals record of Montano and yet some still suggest Maynard

If you haven't noticed yet pal, this is a forum with different people with different views.

I've never once moaned about the injury prone players.

Montano's goal record for a winger is woeful. I think he's only got 1 assist for them too.

At this level, with a strike partner like Pope and some luck with fitness, Maynard's bagging 20 goals.

Please try and avoid conflating one person's complaints with another. It may be difficult to comprehend, but we are different people.

Guess Hagrid was talking about permanent signings

Yes, was referring to looking at the retained lists of Prem clubs and trying to unearth a gem or two.

Alnwick was a punt in an injury crisis on the eve of the season, and made us a fair few quid. Streete should have made us money.

Experience is important, but instead of getting lads who struggled to get into Fleetwood, BR, and Burton's starting line ups, we should be looking at Premier League clubs, and seeing if we can offer their castoffs regular first team football.

Edit: Also wouldn't mind us picking a few exciting non-league players up, like our interest in Rowe in January. Of course, we can't afford **** now, so that's probably out the window,

Could you fit any more cliches or buzzwords in?

"promising, stable, balance of youth and experience, promising, eye for goal, compete effectively".

How you could describe a winger with 6 goals in 100 games at Oldham and the Gas, and is described by Gas fans as having 'little end product', as having an 'eye for goal' is baffling.

I also don't know how this keeper we've signed today could be seen as promising. He's young yes, but has played less football league games than Ryan Boot.

Lainton has played less than 50 games at the ripe old age of 27.

Davis was lightweight when he was with us before, and has barely played since.

I ain't going to be a fan who, regardless of facts, claims these are 'good signings' and some good business, cus they're not. Conversely, I ain't going to be a fan who is apoplectic at these signings, cus they're certainly better than the tripe we were served up 12 months ago.

My view is these signings are what we all expected. Jobbing lower league players who will be adequate for League 2 on the cheap. I didn't expect the likes of Streete, Alnwick, or Grant coming through the doors. I expected cheap signings to ensure we're OK next year.

I think many fan's grievance is that many people are choosing to not buy a season ticket next year, and these aren't the signings to convince them to change their mind. A statement of intent like some other clubs in the division may have swayed a few, but signings goal-shy wingers, goalkeepers with 50 apps between them and a lad not many rated the first time around isn't going to do that.

I look forward to being told to commit suicide by one of the more delightful members of our forum.

A well argued response, so no criticism from me. They are players that need to stay fit and develop. That is what happened to Streete and Alnwick. Grant was a proven League 1 level player, but he had issues that limited his career. One was inconsistency and another temperament. The six game ban was a big factor in Port Vale getting relegated when you look at the fact we only just went down in the end. So even these players deemed a success now were developmental or had risks when signed. I look at what has been signed and I can see that it can be made better than to date and I can see the risks being taken.

I didn't want Brown to get the job but that doesn't mean I wanted to keep Bruno. He was a disaster. As was mentioned above, that game at Wimbledon was totally embarrassing. I can't understand why you would have wanted to keep him.

Just the lack of better options and the inevitable decline under brown. Change is only worth doing if the outcome is positive. There's nothing worse than promoting the assistant manager who has just over seen the last regime. For brown to come out and say the foreign players aren't training properly and the squad is unfit stinks as he was part of the regime that allowed it to happen

I'm going to feel an awful lot better if we sign Bikey, Eagles, Guy and Walker. How many of these we'll get is anybody's guess but I think we'll be lucky if we get Eagles. His photo with Bruce and Terry is saying look at the company I'm keeping and you can bet they're both telling him he's way too good for L2. So it depends on who else comes in for him.

How well all these signings work out depends entirely on Brown. He's not my choice and I wish him well but his performance last season cost us our L1 status in my view. Yes, Smurf was the main culprit but Brown was a close second. How well he fares in L2 is now entirely up to him and he can have no excuses working with a competitive budget. We'll see.

So four signings 3 ive never heard of and one who ive seen play but he is no Neil Aspin .

Hope its turning some heads it aint turned mine ,just seems like we signing anyone really .

Is there a plan ,wheres the experience is Pope going play Centre half and bark out instructions to the the midfield whos the leader in that area Reeves,Defreitas etc

I dont think so .

Is Smith or Davis a leader i dont think so .

I dont c any leaders .

How about Bikey, Pugh, Eagles and Pope? Give me some names of players that will get us promoted that you would like us to sign?

Then name me 5 players from every league 2 club? Infact no make it 3.. I bet you can't! Just because you haven't heard of him doesn't mean they won't be decent. Maybe do what others have done and ask fans from the clubs they have come from.

I nipped on the Bristol Rovers forum yesterday as I knew nothing of the lad. They had excellent things to say and going from that all I can do is be excited and trust Browns judgement.

I can see why so many people have turned their back on OVF and now use twitter and Facebook as their main source of Vale chat. The moaning is literally ridiculous!

I don't disagree with you about Brown's failings but are you really saying he was the only option or do you mean he was the only option Norman would allow?? Norman was supposed to have a Plan B. Are we to assume then that his Plan B was to appoint his third manager with no managerial experience in England, or indeed anywhere in two cases? Are you saying we should have kept one of Norman's cock ups because he was bound to make another one? Says a lot for the foresight and planning of our leader.

You are better

Spot on.. Maynard has scored 8 goals in the last 2 seasons and before that he got 2 goals in 22 for Cardiff.

This is the problem with the people who moan on here! It's ingrained with no substance whatsoever.

They know the name Nicky Maynard and think he's quality yet because they haven't heard of Cristian Montano he is instantly 5hite!!

The people saying we are making cheap and desperate signings need to wake up! You are again basing what you are saying on absolutely **** all! We have signed 4 players in 2 days and to me all look like they will cut it in league 2. If you disagree then fine but I really do question why you bother following the club anymore if you are never going to back the team unless we sign Nicky ******* Maynard and other players who were good a decade ago.
