Personally don't do friendlies. Basically a getting fit exercise to spend 10 quid yawning.

That said if we could one year get a 'proper' friendly that would get bums on seats and generate interest.

And i don't mean Man United 8th squad when we beat them 3-2.

 

I do but prefer it when we do something of a tour, Isle of Man, Irelend etc were good doos. Was going to go the the US when we played over there but I wasn't certain at the time whether or not it would actually go ahead. I for one hope that we do something even if it's a few games further afield.

I know it's incredibly counter-productive to keep harking back to the past but I remember the days when I'd linger before leaving the ground after the final game of the season, just to breathe in a few more minutes of Vale Park. I'd immediately start counting the days, the hours until the friendlies were announced, 'til the fixtures came out, and then until the first game of the season. I couldn't ******* wait.

 

If someone came up to me now and said that next season was cancelled, I don't think I'd give two hoots.

Is what it is i.e. Meaningless and will be a decent work out against Derby. Don't bother with them unless playing someone interesting such as Getafe a couple of years back.

 

Would be nice to have a game or two abroad but assume the Benfica friendly Norm spoke about after the behind closed doors one isn't on the cards now!

That would cost money and I can't imagine any being put forward by Smurf for it - if it was 'lent' to the club like the rest, would you think it was a good way to spend it?

 

Whatever else happens, while the current owner is still in control of strategic financing, we are going to find everything is more Poundland than Waitrose.

 

Even under V2001 we got a pre-season tour to the USA and Canada, under Smurf it'll be a camping trip and games against Mow Cop 'B' and Ipstones junior reserves.
