Matchday thread: Bristol Rovers v Port Vale

I don't think it's a case of being tough enough, I think it's a case of organisation away from home. I didn't go today but I've been to a couple of other away games and I feel we're a bit too open, trying to pass the ball around like at Vale Park but, often, with less space and home opposition who have an emphasis to close us down quickly and push forward as fast as they can which is what home supporters expect. Invariably we give the ball away too much and end up pressurised by the home side, pretty much the inverse of what we do to visiting teams at Vale Park. For me we need a more solid formation away, say 4-5-1 with an emphasis on keeping it tight but using pace to break, which we have with the likes of Jones, Thomas, maybe de Freitas (wide). Whatever Bruno does he needs to stop us getting stretched so easily and has to give the back four better protection away and a big part of that is not giving the ball away so cheaply, especially in midfield as we go forward.

If he doesn't start earning points away soon Smurf will be having to dust off (ie, come up with) 'Plan B' - and let's hope that doesn't mean signing the rapper who was in Harry Brown!

the smaller pitches is an issue i think, but it cant be the only blame, when were at home we look good at passing the ball around, when i saw us at bradford, and bury away, passing it around didnt work, tippy tappy passing football away from home i feel doesnt work, perhaps being more defensive like a 5-3-2?

i dunno.

I do let them know, I once threw my season ticket against the back of Lee Collins head told him go **** himself after a home defeat that showing my feelings enough? Fair play he picked it up and handed it me back lol but I told em straight.

what a first class **** you are then :)

i wont say on here what i'd do if you threw a season ticket at me becoz it would result in a ban, i dunno why you post on here, your posts are about as useful as mouldy bread.

We cannot rely on home form. I really felt confident after such a battering we dished out to Gilks 2nd half last week and so to come away with nothing, especially against a side that also played in the week, is quite frankly very disappointing to say the least. I'd like to think we could get 3 points against Millwall but our recent record against them is pretty dire. Anyway, we go again...

We were ok today. An unfortunate result but not the end of the world it's a terrible place to visit to play football on a tight pitch and not the best place to visit as a fan. We just need to sort out our away strategy as it is ruining a very promising season so far.

On the bright side either Bruno will sort it. Or in three months time we will be in mid table having won all of our home games.Smurf will press his plan b ejector seat for Bruno and the seasoned English professionals will win us promotion and either way we have our vale joke city Derby to look forward too. I would sort out our away form ASAP if I was Bruno the FA cup is on the horizon Exeter away tight pitch (tchau Portuguese for goodbye )

Vale were OK today all joking aside and this was my first away game but would be nice to sing super vale away again it's been too long

Surely after today's performance and giving the peno away Tavares can be nowhere near the first team anymore the guy is shocking and barring Mbamba is the worst new recruit we have but who do we play there? Brown can't play every game so unless we have a formation change we're screwed.

Just got back. We played ok first half and draw was fair at half time.

Second half Bristol were simply better than us. Their forwards gave us lots of trouble. We improved with Cicilia who showed some really good touches. The new winger Shalaj also looked promising.

As for Bristol, they didn't look a poor side to me. Lines played ok but Easter was their best player.

D'ya reckon rovers will be up in the top six come the end of the season?
