A deal until 2020 means it will take some serious cash(unless there is a clause in his deal) for him to go now and the difference with Smith is he IS a goalscoring Centre half which will only add to his value

I can genuinely say I am 100% delighted with this. I'm absolutely thrilled with the news.

This is one of the best stories to emerge from Vale in many years. To sign up our own youngsters for three years sends out a clear message. Well done Nathan for playing so well that you almost demanded a good deal and well done Smurf and Bruno for not messing around and making this happen.

 

I still expect Nathan to move on to a bigger club in due course. True Vale fans have no issue with this. If one of our youngsters can progress to Premier League or even International standard and earn a big transfer fee for the club then it means they will have performed to an incredibly high standard to achieve all these things. It is when someone sneaks off on a Bosman that we get frustrated.

 

I think Nathan has tremendous potential and I look forward to his further development. He has the prospect of a fantastic career playing at a high level.

Excellent news, good to see the player rewarded and that he's also shown some loyalty and not held out to see what better may come next year. Now if the right offer for player and club comes in it will be on our terms if he moves on.

There's really nothing bad in this. It's great to see a young, local lad with a lot of talent now on a long-term contract.

 

In addition to brilliant work by the Vale and Norman I'd like to praise Nathan Smith. It seems to be a very quick turnaround (some of these contract negotiations take months) so he's clearly shown loyalty to the Vale as well.

 

As Essex Vale says - this is genuinely one of the best good news stories out of the Vale in years...

Fantastic news and shows this club is going in the right direction under Smurf and we are lucky to have him. Bruno deserves praise too for showing the faith in him Page never did, I reckon if Page was still here he wud have been shipped out on loan again!
