I have recently been give a bottle of the wine produced for Port Vale many years ago. I obviously purchased this for a family as a bit of a joke (not Port Vale supporters) and as it was found during a house clearance it has been returned to me. Can any of our historians give me any details of this product, i.e. was it produced for a special event? Any information would be appreciated.

I've heard of it, they used to 'serve' it up with the trough in the Lorne Street dinner hall. Was a great source of merriment at the time (until people tasted it to discover it was Billy Bell's dog's slash, freshly and lovingly strained through his kidneys).

Produced from a short lived vineyard on the western slopes of Burslem, its original name has been perpetuated in a local delicacy Vin-de-Lou. Prop. Louis Bell.

Ive also got a bottle. I got it in mid 90s at a xmas dinner party held at the club.

I had a bottle of Port Vale red wine bought for me on my 50th Birthday, I still have it in my spare bedroom! and I'm 60 in a few weeks time...

They used to flog this in the club shop until the early 2000s. I believe it is simply relabelled as there is no way we commissioned a company to cultivate our own distinct wine.

 

Having said that back in the 90s there were some great vale branded items produced that really were excellent quality. I remember we had Motorola producing Vale branded phone cards and Mizuno even produced a very natty vale branded golf bag.

I've got a bottle of red and a bottle of white that I won on a Radio Stoke competition in the 90's. They're signed by the squad of the time. I'm not a massive wine fan but it looks bl**dy awful!
