Anthony Grant

It's no surprise really. At his best he could play in the Championship though he's limited in some ways and a little bit inconsistent.

But the agent has done his job. His transfer request has been splashed all over the BBC sports pages and no doubt a wealthy League One club will now sign him before the season starts.

It would have to be on Smurf's terms. Wonder what his bottom line is on Grant? Every player has his worth and Smurf has made it clear it would take a substantial bid to even allow talks to take place.

No true Vale fan wants to see him leave....but if we receive a figure that allows us to progress with other signings and put cash into the bank for the coming season then who knows. We may come out smiling?

PVFC probably wouldnt, but they dont own the ground... do they?

Again it doesnt matter. The football league have imposed a requirement of separating the ground from the club which is an automatic lease below market value is issued in the event of a change of ownership of the "golden share".

What figure would anyone say is reasonable?

Our very major debt is to Mr Smurthwaite, rather than the council. Could you see Mr Smurthwaite being as accommodating as the council were writing off our debt?

Absolutely not and since club and ground have been separated his ownership of the ground is key to him getting any money back.

Thats on a sale, if it goes **** up ala V2001 he loses everything. PVFC wouldnt be "ducked" though, it wasnt last time and wont be in the future.

pvfc owned the ground last time, albeit mortgaged, this time Mr and Mrs Smurthwaite own it.

Have they really? Norman insisted it was done by Wildes, the only thing he had done right apparently, nothing to do with the Football League. The ground has also changed ownership since then. Either way PVFC no longer have the ground as an asset to back their debts. Our major debt, which is higher than the debt V2001 built up in 10 years, is to one person, Norman Smurthwaite. If he gets fedup he can start to charge the club interest on these loans, he could call them in and we won't have the funds to repay them, he has us by the short and curlies, is that a Football League requirement?

But what can he achieve in that scenario. Sell the ground? Not enough there to repay his debt. Charge the Club interest? He'd have to give the club the money to pay his interest!

If anything, I think Smurf is going for bust to get Vale promoted, which would increase the value of the club, increase crowds etc

I didn't say he could achieve anything I was merely stating the facts to hand. How is he going for bust to get us promoted? I don't buy that, he has taken a completely different approach possibly for a number of reasons. If it works great, if it doesn't then we could be in **** street, it's a massive gamble, I really hope it pays off
