Bury's "bottom four" budget

valeparklife

Recommended Posts

"A Guardian report claims that Bury owner Stewart Day is borrowing £1m, secured on the Gigg Lane ground, at an annual interest rate of 138%. It means that after just one year, the amount owed would be £2.38m. It’s a worrying gamble particularly as Bury could lose their ground if it fails..."

The thing is, even if they were to go up, they'll still be £2.38 m in debt, as well as being lumbered with players on high wages and long contracts who aren't really of Championship standard.

I'm looking into League One wages and some clubs split them into the "wage budget" (i.e. 60% of the turnover as per the FFP rules) and then any money contributed by the owner is regarded as separate (referred to as "equity donation"). I've just read a news report on Barnsley where they say "the Club currently boasts the fifth highest wage bill in League One in addition to a fourth highest equity donation by our owner..."

So, in Vale terms, Norman's "equity donation" was the money he personally paid out for the signings of Remie Streete and loan of Ryan Inniss and other signings.

So, the Bury boss may mean that in FPP terms their budget is the fourth lowest. But I bet when you add the cash injection (the "equity donation") from the owner (with the dodgy Wonga-style mortgage on the ground) the wage bill is far, far higher...

Yes, that's the problem. I think it's one thing to invest your money in players with the potential to be sold on (as NS is trying to do) but Bury's main signings are all in the veteran stage - Pope, Leon Clarke, Peter Clarke - with limited re-sale value and all on long-term contracts.

In my view, it's a recipe for disaster.

Which begs the question on whether there is an ulterior motive behind what they are doing.

It really is disgusting, the club has been around for 130 years, supported by generation after generation of fans, managed to continue despite what must be huge competition from Bolton and the 2 Manchester clubs, and now it is all being jeopardised by some stupid conniving conning ***** in a suit. Meanwhile, the FA/ League/ whoever idly stand by and let it happen but manage to make time to fine players because of goal celebrations.

Well, they're stuck with whatever Pope is being paid for the next 2 1/2 years.

Worryingly, some Vale fans would also like to see us spending even more out of our means than at present. Need their heads looking at.

Hard to believe, I know, but we are actually singing from the same tune book on this one!!
