I've never rated Duffy until this season but overall this year it's a toss up between him and Grant for our best player, well may be Purkiss has a shout as well. On current form this is the best defence I've seen at Vale Park.

 

You should have seen the 1954 defence.

I agree entirely, my point was I cant remember any other defensive errors, and in particular none for Streete.

 

So who is our best 4?

 

In my opinion the best back 4 would be purkiss, streete, inniss, dicko without a doubt.

I think Grant is brilliant. He provides a buffer for the defence. If we had had him last season our defence would have been better. He can play a bit as well.

It may be harsh to say this but I feel Duffy should have made more effort to gain momentum chasing after the ball when it bounced in the lead up to the Bradford goal.

 

If he hadn't been complacent (Even though just for two seconds) Duffy may have earned a free kick for an off the ball foul-they do get given. And besides, at that stage of the game you fight for every inch. Yes, it appears Hanson grabbed Duffy, but if Duffy had put more physical effort in getting away I am sure Duffy would have hit the deck, and a free kick to Vale.

 

I think to answer your question, that Duffy may be slightly lacking personal confidence at the moment due to that late Bradford goal and the penalty miss at West Brom, and I feel he should revert to the bench to make way for Streete against Wigan at the weekend. That is what competition for places is all about

Page will sort it, it his job to assess his players attitudes and problems.

Duffy already has three yellow cards so Streete may get his chance soon if Duffy continues the way he is at the moment.

Attack is the best defence. We are tending to go back to the bad old ways of eight men back and two strugglers up front. We need to bring the ball out of defence and play it forward though midfield.

Not the first hospital back pass he has done. Not including the one to Alnwick that he picked up.

 

No way that was a hospital back pass, the keeper had loads of time to play the ball if you watch it back.

I guess it depends on your interpretation of errors, normally defensive errors are those that lead to goals and I wouldn't suggest Duffy has cost us any.

There was the back pass at Swindon, unless I'm mistaken, but fortunately Alnwick was so quick off his line it came to nothing. Good defensive teamwork in my view :)
