Unless they've been offered a substantially better contract all players will have a look around and see what's out there within the time frame of the offer from Vale. Hope he stays.

Radio Stoke are reporting this morning Michael OConnor is stalling on his contract offer:(

 

They all will with Smurf saying he wont be negotiating,i fear we will lose all our better players and then Norm might get his wish of a team full of youngsters

This is what makes the lack of contract talks 6 months ago all the more frustrating.

 

If everyone has got until June 10th [or whatever] to reply to their offers then most players will sit tight, consider other offers their agents put their way, and decide at the last minute.

 

Because of our financial position [in so far as we can be out-bid by a number of bigger clubs in this league] it is imperative that we try and tie down our better players before their contracts run down and while they are happy and settled here.

 

We can all moan and groan about players leaving [me as much as anyone]. It is disappointing.

But if we were offered a pay cut or a freeze or a 40% increase what would we do? 99.9% of us would walk barefoot on coals to our new job.

 

I remember Smurf saying that we were no longer going to be a club that lets the contracts of our better players run down.............yea ok then

I can't decide if this is some kind of power struggle between Rob Page and Norman, Rob wants the players he has listed but maybe Norman wants to force him to play more youngsters by offering contracts he thinks the senior players won't accept. Or maybe he is just trying to be hard faced and get the senior players at a bargain price. I am not sure we really need a bunch of resentful players who accept our offer just because they couldn't get anything better, didn't work with Micky Adams. Time will tell I guess. At least we should have some idea of next seasons squad before I renew my season ticket at the end of June.

The reason that they are given till the 10th June is so that they can make an informed judgement after considering all the options - its all part of employment law.

I think O'Connor will go. He had a very good second part of the season following an average first half. He doesn't enjoy the travelling and I suspect he will be offered more money to go ply his trade nearer to home. I will wish him well but I don't see him as irreplaceable. Popey looks as though he will go and I wish the legend the very best. For me the important chap to keep hold of is Marshall. Even when he is playing badly he doesn't hide and always gives 100%

Hasn't NS said, on a fairly regular basis, that Michael O'Connor would be offered a good deal, but that it would be family issues rather than the money that decided him?
