UK gains £20bn from European migrants

Memphis

I should have possibly used correct terminology-the 'Majority' of non-business people will want to leave the EU. I haven't met anyone yet that doesn't and I'm talking hundreds of people I meet through work or social means.

You need to gte out more ;)

I would bet my life savings I could go to any UK high street and find more people who want to leave than people who want to stay in

What £1.50? ;)

-it's just common sense-the EU has been nothing but a bugbear on the country and needs disposing of.

Well clearly it isn't just common sense unless you are claiming that millions of people in this country have no common sense. I suspect very few are happy with the EU as it is and wnat major changes but that's not the same as wanting us out of it

He can't, he's already told you he won't go outside unless he's in his car for fear of bumping into people that are well....a bit thingy ;)

Add to that he's moaning about the cost of petrol on the other thread he's trying to turn into another **** one (the word Aussie Rules doesn't want me to say) and its a bit of a predicament for Citizen Carllllll :D

Whilst I think everyone will agree controlled immigration would be great you can't just take the high earners and the educated as we will end up with an elitist society.

The point is we don't let people in that we don't need, who won't be of benefit to the people already here..all the people already here. That does not mean only letting in high earners or the highly educated..if we have a need for low earning low education workers and we don't have people already here to take up those positions then we bring in low earning low education people to take them up..it's not remotely elitist

I'd be interested to know the full exact details of what controlled immigration means to UKIP.

The more detail the better

Who'd have thought it?

:moreconfusion:

I thought Carl had been quiet today.

Of course we have benefited from EU migrants as they tend, as the report says, to be the most educated of the people coming to this country. But to be fair, the report also says that, if the time period 1995-2011 is considered instead, non-European migrants living in Britain took out more than they put in for 17 consecutive years, taking £120bn more out of the state than they contributed in taxes.

There's also another article in the Guardian that is worth a careful read:

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/oct/29/britain-immigration-system-in-chaos-report-reveals

So the debate is not so simple. It needs a rational, rather than an emotional response, though this is something that is hard to achieve because people's opinions are so polarised. I wonder sometimes whether this is ever going to be possible, which is actually quite worrying.
