UK gains £20bn from European migrants

I think the point of the thread was to demonstrate that the popular view that immigration is a drain on the public purse is largely a fallacy.

Even the OBR has said that in order to reduce the budget deficit, net migration would have to go up, not down.

At the risk of repeating myself if we only had those immigrants who contributed and didnt have those who draw money out we would have more money so uncontrolled immigration is definitely a drain on the public purse. Controlled immigration, which is what UKIP want, would result in more money in the purse than we have now. Until you lot get your head around the fact that UKIP is not anti-immigration you will simply continue to trot out evidence that is meaningless in terms of arguing against it and all those idiots bouncing up and down thinking they have exposed a UKIP lie are making themselves look thick.

Whilst I think everyone will agree controlled immigration would be great you can't just take the high earners and the educated as we will end up with an elitist society.

I'd be interested to know the full exact details of what controlled immigration means to UKIP.

I'm sure Farage and his xenophobic minions will be able to churn out one of their standard lines.

"The infrastucture conna cope", "taking brits jobs", "all on benefits, scroungers", "we aint go no more room".

It does my head when people say we're overcrowded. In terms of population density we're 51st worldwide.

Net migration to the UK was 243,000 in the year ended March 2014 and that figure represented an increase of 39% over the previous year.It was made up of 560,000 immigrants less 317,000 emigrants.Around 75% of new arrivals were from the EU.

The UK had more immigration than any other EU state in almost every year between 2002 and 2012. (Link to Eurostat table available).

Regarding land use…yes, 12% of the UK is urbanised but 65% is used for agriculture,13% is forestry,3% is marine coastal, rivers, lakes, broads and marshland. The remaining 7% consists of areas such as mountains, hills, fells, uplands, leisure areas and estates.(Source: Land use in the UK, Office for National Statistics).

In 2011,32% of new dwellings were built on previously undeveloped land and England’s greenbelt has been greatly reduced by development over the last 30 years. It has fallen by 32,000 hectares in the last 7 years alone and our greenbelt (including woodland and leisure areas) is now down to 13% of England’s total land area.

What exactly is your motive for wanting this tiny island flooded with more and more immigrants and just how much of our extremely limited remaining greenbelt do you people want concreted over?! Will you eventually want housing estates built on our mountains? Or propped up with stilts on our rivers?!

Don't give them any ideas-before long we'll be building cities in the sky
