I take (some of) it all back, we are on the verge of levelling it up at 1-1 with India at 123-6 chasing 445.

 

Anderson is bowling like a demon. Just need a couple of bowlers to support him and Broad and a spinner to replace Robson and we are in business again.

I'm not sure you meant that but that could be feasible anyway. Should Ali open?

 

I think like a lot of the team, Ali is a "work in progress" and should be persisted with. He obviously can score Test hundreds and that makes him another all-rounder (and gives England a formidable batting line-up).

 

Personally, I think the short-term option to Robson would be to bring back Compton to open and leave the rest of the side as is. However, I think England will probably stick with Robson for at least another Test (not everyone can be a Ballance/Root and take to Test immediately and Robson has shown glimpses - he's got a 50 and a 100 after all)

 

I think England fans just need to be a bit patient as with the inexperience in the side there are bound to be bad as well as good days until everyone finds their feet.

Sorry yes I meant to bring in a spinner (if one emerges) to replace Robson for the time being with Root or Ali opening.

There's a lesson in this thread somewhere. Great effort from 1 to 11 this week. These are our best players. About time we got behind them.

 

I'm not certain they are, Robson needs some form and Jordan seems to be really struggling.

 

The introduction of Buttler was desperately obvious and now hopefully temporary / better replacements for the two aforementioned should improve us.

 

The senior players like Bell, Anderson and Cook really stood up this time together after quite a while which was great to see.

 

Let's not forget that's England's first test victory in virtually a year. Great start, now it's time to turn those promising shoots of recovery into sustained improvement against an average Indian side.
