Players WANT to Come to Vale - Micky

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking the same thing, more and more so with each player that has either left or turned down a move to us.

I assume that Smurthwaite is controlling just how many peanuts we offer?!

The players leaving hasn't got anything to do with wages though. Loft and Tomlin left because of geographical reasons, JMW and Hugill left because they think they are bigger than the club (which they aren't and no player ever will be), Davis has been given a fantastic opportunity considering his performances in the last couple of seasons. We aren't offering anything less than the players deserve or want, it's just who we are, where we are and what type of players we are after, good, high quality league 1 players. We will get some in and we will miss out on some but I'm sure come august 9th we will have a competitive squad.

This begs the question why nobody has signed to replace those who have left.

I admire your positivity. Fingers crossed MA can turn this round into our favour like he did in the promotion season.

All we can do mate is stay positive. I've been the biggest worrier of all on this site but I've come to the realisation that there is nothing, other than buying season tickets and supporting our club financially, we can do to bring players in. So I'm going to sit back, relax and let Micky do what he's payed to do; build a squad that hopefully, as you have quite rightly stated, is of the same calibre, positivity and ability of the 2012/13 season squad.

If course he is controlling the finances I would be very concerned if he wasn't!! Im happy with us offering peanuts if that stops us spending beyond our means then so be it. I think part of the problem is the players who have signed (Lines, Dickinson, Neal) are big hitters in the wage stucture of the club and that coupled with a drop in season ticket sales doesn't put us in a fantastic position when offering contracts to new blood. I think this season will be unlike others and the key to success could be to utilise the loan market from big clubs that want to send there youngsters out on the cheap to gain experience.

Southampton have just lost their three best players and well regarded manager. They haven't replaced the three players because they have to leave in order to set in train the cycle of replacement. That is is essentially where Port Vale are with the players who turned down new contracts.

Makes no sense.

If you mean they haven't replaced them because a new manager will have his own ideas on who should come in then fair enough. But that isn't anything like Vale's situation.
