PORT Vale assistant manager Mark Grew paid tribute to Carl Dickinson as the grieving defender reported for duty after the death of his mother on Saturday, and helped the Valiants to a 3-2 victory in their FA Cup third-round replay at Plymouth last night.

Best defender I've seen since we had Pilko & Micky Walsh playing for us.. (Not that old!) best signing of the the season, he is one of the best professionals in the game and he absolutely loves it. He is loved in this city by both sets of fans and I wish him all the best!!
