Terrific result today, looking at the 3 fixtures today included I'd have taken 3 points from the 3 games, so anything else in the next 2 will be a bonus. Excellent all round display from every player that graced the pitch in a Vale shirt.

 

Special mention for Johnson, at 1-0 up saving a peon... Match winning save for any game and gave the team huge belief and probably dented Rotherham in the same save! Though Chilvers played fantastic alongside Duffy and finally Pope won alomost everything!

 

Top notch 7th, 2 points off 6th and Fa Cup 3rd round tie coming up!

It is unfair to single out Pope for play acting....He takes a lot of physical battering and many a time I wish he would take advantage and stay down but he doesn't,from where I sit it was difficult to say what happened but the reaction in the Lorne Street suggested that the lad took a whack and deserved to walk.

 

Correct! You cut off the bottom of my post where I said most players seek to cheat / gain an advantage! ;)

Penalty: Another Johnson special. Splendid.

Sending off: Rotherham defender should have got booked in the first half and spent every moment he could kicking and pulling Popey. Got what he deserved.

Pringle: Should have been sent off too for kicking the ball away ... twice.

Chances: Should have buried them with at least three more goals.

Interestingly Johnson was delayed coming to MOM perhaps Nicky had quiet word to them all pointing out that they are as good as anyone when they put their minds to it and the next so games will definitely be hard but why a prize to go for.

I think we have to remember that sometimes people post on here as a knee jerk reaction to a result. I'm sure everyone has at some point. What's important is that we all love the Vale and should be concentrating our energies towards the clubs success and not bickering with each other.

A terrific all-round display from all concerned. Micky with his surprise tactics really gave us a platform from which to dominate and once we were in front the only real threat they posed was via the ref.

 

From 1 to 11 they were all superb and although we may have played better during the last 12 months, there are few more satisfying results than todays.

 

I don't normally give scores for players, but today I'll make an exception :

 

Johnson : Read the penalty well, got down well and held on. Other than that, some good command of his area and is getting more confident each game. 10Pints

 

Yates : Played well and doesn't panic, some good quality passing and links up the play well. 7 Pints

 

Duffy : Superb reading of the game and looks assured as centre back but still doesn't look comfortable will the ball. 8 Pints

 

Chilvers : Looked like he'd never been away, a total 'rock' today. 9 Pints

 

Dickinson : Wholehearted as ever and made some vital challenges and getting more adventurous too. 7 Pints

 

Dodds : Really well taken goal and intelligent play both offensively and defensively. 8 Pints

 

Loft : What can you say that hasn't already been said. 8 Pints

 

Griff : See Loft. 8 Pints

 

Lines: Great vision and an all-round team performer. 7 Pints.

 

Tomlin : Getting to grips nicely now, well taken goal and improving all the time. 7 Pints.

 

Pope : Battered and bruised all game but yet again a solid performance where he never shirks a challenge. Holds the ball up really well and brings others into the game. Pity his goal didn't count. 9 Pints

 

Subs : 7 Pints each

Good team performance.

 

Couple of sloppy moments defensively, might have got a couple more goals going forward, but ultimately sufficient to win the game.

 

Thought the midfield was where we won the game. Griff did a job, Dodds put in a shift and took his goal well. Loft and Lines were superb. Both covered the park, posed a threat and rarely wasted a thing.

 

Decent result to take into a couple of tough looking away games in the league.

Have seen the replays now.

 

Duffy a touch unlucky with the pen. Lad goes down quite easy and it's simply a collision as he slows down rather than an out and out foul. Perhaps explains why no card was produced.

 

IMHO the red isn't a red offence. Daft on their lads part but he pokes the ball away with minimal contact with Popey. I think the ref has allowed the crowd reaction to influence him more than Pope tbh. He gave us nothing in the first half, was barracked as he went off and the crowd was baying for blood. In real time it looked far worse but for me that should get overturned on appeal.

 

In fairness to the ref he did however choose to not give Arnason a second yellow when he could easily have done so on two occasions for tackles from behind.

 

2nd goal looked marginal in terms of offside. I would however like to see Popes tap in that was chalked off as I thought that looked tight in real time.

Most people around me did not think it was a sending off, but when you get the chance to get someone sent off we all turn into cheats. Mind you the ref, could have got upset with us nicking his job.

Don't know but I told them to shut the **** up. They did but whether it was down to my intervention was debatable.
