Comfortable first half, decent strike by Robbo.

 

Dire first 25 mins of 2nd and they had us rocking for 5-10 mins after their goal.

 

After Popes great header it looked a matter of how many we wanted and scored another 2 good goals.

 

Job done, time for a plumb draw please.

To say 4-1 flatters us is an understatement. For 70 mins there was nothing between the teams and in the first half they had two great chances and fluffed both.

 

We were out of ideas and puff until Rob Taylor came on. Man of match even though he only played half an hour.

 

Fair play to Salisbury. They put a shift in and for 5 mins after they equalised, had us very worried.

 

Well done Vale though. Got there in the end. Two bits of class, Taylors cross and Popes header got us out of jail.

Rob Taylor did what he was made to do. Come on as an impact player. I'm pleased for him but still don't see him as a starter.

Comfortable win without playing well. Similar to the short wood performance, never really got going but did a professional job. One of the big boys away for me, if not stoke would be lovely.

We are now a side that MA has made strong enough to avoid a cup upset, so with £67k or so prize money at stake for a 3rd round win, I hope we get Macc or Brackley and go on to the 'big' club in the 4h round. Dreading a crapppppy Championship away draw like Burnley or even worse like when we progressed a bit in the League Cup about 4 years ago and got the worst possible draw, Scunthorpe away.

Most preferred in order if we don't get a non-league club again -

 

Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal at home with TV coverage

Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal away for the big gate

Stoke home or away a cert for TV but risky that we could be well beaten (if we lost 4-0 to Chelsea it wouldn't matter so much)

Man C, Tottenham, Everton all pretty good at home or away for the day out.

 

 

Please no trips to MK Dons or similar, or Yeovil or anyone else with all the glamour of Sarah Palin in a pig outfit.

Certainly didn't sound that way on radio, they said the first half was a bit dire and Vale were certainly not cruising. They seemed to put up a hell of a fight for 70 minutes or so, fitness and good subs told and credit to MA, the players and all who attended in a very decent crowd that will be far better than a lot of teams get in the 2nd round tomorrow. About 4300 Vale fans in the 4500 or so is good on a cold Friday night and proves the pricing was about right. Credit to Smurf for the pricing too then.

That's made a chip in the £1m Smurf has put in to Vale, lets hope the 3rd round gouges out another few hundred thousand with a great draw and TV coverage.

I think that I must have been watching a different game than most on here. For my money only a handful of players came out of the game with any credit. The rest to me were rather poor especially in the second period until our saviour Mr Pope got on the end of Taylor's decent cross then it was easy as the Salisbury lads seemed to give up. The score looks good but the general performance certainly wasn't.
