From what I am lead to believe we couldn't sign Mat Doumbe because his wages (£125,000) would have taken us approx £45,000 over financial threshold.

Apparently we have approx £80,000 left in the budget before we hit the financial threshold, so if we attempted to sign a player who's wages were less than £80,000 then we would be able to sign him because we haven't exceeded the % of our turnover.

Hope this makes sense!

Just out of interest, how do you know the exact figures?

I was told by a business contact of mine who already sponsors the club, that he had heard we were going to offer Doumbe approx £2400 per week (roughly £125,000) but we could only afford to offer him £1500 (approx £80,000) otherwise we would break the financial fairPlay threshold.

Surely he would accept the 1.5k a week now rather than nothing what he is currently earning

MMMM, wonder if we are allowed to sign a player if he was totally sponsored by outside source

Don't think Norman or the FL is too happy with things like that. But if somebody is willing to sponsor the ground for £1M, that goes through the books, and is part of the turnover, so bring him in. Lottery ticket for £79M already in my pocket?

To be honest, that's seems a fair reflection. Teams overspend, go into admin and then get bought by new owners.

Which is very nearly criminal. So many local businesses suffer as well as the game itself as a consequence of this sort of irresponsible behaviour.

The FL trying to rein clubs is unfortunately a very necessary evil.
