I notice he's outlined the cuts he wants to make for 2015/16.

Well as it's only meant to be spent on heating and someone in a hot climate doen't need to spend it on heating...they won't miss it. Well that's the logic I guess anyway

 

I know wealthier people in the UK might not spend it on heating either, but they might cos there is the need to spend on heating

Pensioners who move to a colder climate will still get it even though they may not need it. Some pensioners dont need it, some do. Help the people who need help, isnt that the basis of the people with the broadest shoulders taking the weight?... why give money to people who dont need it?

Make the thing means tested... make all benefits means tested.... including the NHS perhaps?

If someone moves to a colder climate then they should not expect their country of origin to pay for their bills. I'm sure the Indian government will not be putting their hands into their pockets for the millions over here!!

Totally agree but we know those in warmer climates do not need it as they don't spend on heating..why does anyone in a hot climate need a heating allowance? it's not mean to supplement benfits it's mean to be spent on heating so elderly people aren't made ill or killed by the cold

And those who need help to pay their heating bills will still get the help

 

There is an argument to be had over means testing

And we should be proud that we do help our citizens who are in need and living overseas, not trying to copy nations that don't help their citizens in similar circumstances.

Excellent idea.

We should also take away the state pension for people who have high private pensions.

One could argue that they do...by paying more in to the pension pot than they will ever take out as well as possibly financing their own private pensions

 

One could argue that the poorest get more out than they put in and so get other peoples' money so the wealthiest already take the most weight?

 

But there is an argument for looking at means testing
