Looking at people's teams I find if hard to believe anyone could pick casillas or piqué they both missed lots of big games and piqué when he played was a shadow of his former self, I do however believe they are 2 great players but casillas did not play after Christmas not through his own fault.

You are getting mixed up between the best players in the world and best national side. Just because a side wins the the World Cup, doesn't mean they have the 11 best players in the world. It just means that they have the best national side. You seem to suggest that Spain would beat a side made up out of the best 11 players from the rest of the world? The idea that no Germans should be in the best 11 because Spain best them, is as stupid as not picking at Barcelona players because Bayern beat them. Look at someone like Bale; he's in a team that didn't win anything and just had a couple of good wins against top opposition but does that mean he wasn't a fantastic player during the season just gone who performed very well against top class opposition?

 

Yes Spain won the lot and beat many top teams in recent seasons but that does not mean that there aren't non-Spanish players who are better and performed better than the Spanish player in their position

Spain are world and double euro champions because they have built a squad of high quality players that get on together, are friends and understand each other on the pitch. That is an essential part of a great team and the factor everyone is missing here picking individual players. This is one of the key reasons why the special one is leaving Real Madrid - he insulted the Barcelona players personally and as a result he has alienated his own players who outside of competing for La Liga are their friends.

 

If we go back to 1970, Rivalino, a main striker was prepared to play left side to accommodate Pele. That is the type of accommodation and sacrifice that needs to be made to be great in addition to talent.

 

I don't believe that Bayern Munich are anywhere near as good as the Barcelona team of 2010/11 which many regard as the strongest club team of all time. But what they do have is a very good organisation and understanding. They have maximised what is best to be German including the physical side of the game. Now most of the Barcelona and Real Madrid players will be retained at the end of this season and they will strengthen the areas that need to be strengthened to counter what the two German teams have. In the end players like Messi and Iniesta and Ronaldo are higher level players than Bayern have. They are amongst the best players of all time and at or approaching their peak. So when the problems they have been surrounded with (the special one at Real Madrid, the need to find or get fit the defence at Barcelona) these teams will begin to prevail again.

Maybe that's true but ultimately surely what matters is how well did he perform playing left side compared to other players who played left side; if he didn't perform as well in any particular season then he could not claim the left side position in any bext XI of that season.

 

Would the recent Barcelona team at their best beat the current Bayern team..I think they probably would but that's a separate argument
