Awesome performance and a deserved win after putting in so much effort to stop Barcelona as well as having the quality to score 4 goals

 

Plus the ref played a blinder in helping them with 2 of the goals

 

Messi should never have played though..you can't have any passengers at that level

I agree JA, especially regarding Messi. I'd be pretty angry if I was one of the very good players sat on the subs bench watching Messi struggle through the game.

 

I quite like that Barca were the victims of "gamesmanship" for once- especially the body check for Robben's goal!

True but a lot of that was due to Bayern's tactics/quality and the sheer effort they put in to disrupt Barcelona. Messi wasn't fit and they stopped Iniesta and Xavi from playing thru sheer hard work (and a fair bit of tactical awareness)

 

They made Barca play badly

Bayern must be favourites to win the Champions league after that great performance.....they have signed Mario Gotze from Dortmund for 34 million and Pep Guardiola will be manager for next season....considering the might of Bayern along with

Barca and Real and also the big spending PSG it could be a while before an English club gets to the Champions league final again.

I've said for a while Bayern and Dortmund both look very good sides in this years Champions League. Dortmund outplayed Man City twice in the group stages as well. They got a tad lucky against Malaga in the last round but tonight's should be a good game too. Bayern look a good bet for the title on that showing though, although you should never write a Mourinho side off imo!

Bayern showed terrific energy and they played the old British way......Power, pace and strength.....Like Jacko said if you stop them playing they conna defend.......

And yet Barca had the vast majority of the possession..but kept losing it when it mattered. Bayern also got at them out wide and good though Barca's fullbacks are going fwd they aint so good defending

 

Barca really could have used a big strong centre forward to hold the ball up and bring Iniesta etc into play but seemed to have no Plan B

Bayern players were tall, strong, fit and fast.

They reminded me of the physic of Daniel Jones.

 

They had skill as well and kept dropping back to pack the defence whilst Barca kept passing backwards and sideways. Once that Bayern won the ball they broke at great speed, running at the Barca defence and only making a few passes.

No nonsense, just swift and direct.

IMO it was a number of things, Bayern's pressing game, Messi not being fit, the gratitude of the referee and their style of play/weaknesses catching up with them. They were lucky to go through against PSG and lets not foget that Chelsea KO'd them last season. Its been comming for a while.
